F9: The Fast Saga (Fast & Furious 9) (2021, D: Lin)

Confirmed by Diesel tonight off his Instagram

http://deadline.com/2016/02/fast-fur...ed-1201695535/

Well racing fans, the talk over the last year or so hasn’t just been idle chit chat, and Universal’s second most successful franchise will indeed be 10-films long. As is customary for the series, the news comes courtesy of star Vin Diesel’s Instagram account, where tonight he revealed the release dates for the next three Fast & Furious films. As previously announced, Fast 8 drops April 14, 2017. Fast & Furious 9 will follow it on April 19,2019, with Fast & Furious 10 coming April 2, 2021.

Diesel long said that Fast 8 was intended to form the first installment of a trilogy that will bring the series to a conclusion after 10 films. That plan, he says, is in part meant to honor the memory of Paul Walker. That’s very touching, but of course the biggest factor in the decision isn’t sentiment, but money. Luckily for Diesel, the last installment, 2015’s Furious 7, was a huge hit for Universal that went on to earn $1.516 billion worldwide. Even so, the studio has until now declined to make it official official, though they’ve largely been treated as more or less inevitable.

Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray is directing the next installment of the series, Fast 8, with the full cast including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham expected to return. Neil Moritz is producing with Diesel.

Really hard to believe this series will have gone 10 films and 20 years.

Here's the thread for Fast and Furious 8, which is being worked on now and will be filmed this Spring.

This feels like a MCU thread.

re: Fast & Furious 9 (April 19, 2019)

Chris Morgan talks a little about his plans for writing the next movie (9) It's vague though:

http://www.slashfilm.com/chris-morga...the-furious/2/

So how early do you start working on an official treatment for the next film?

It varies. Kind of like I was saying with Vin, while we’re doing one of the films, we’ll start talking and daydreaming about other ideas and it’ll be a loose thing then. But as soon as the studio plants a flag and officially decides ‘we’re going to do the next one,’ that’s really when we get serious about a treatment or an outline or a scriptment or something like that.

Have they done that yet for Fast 9? Have you started work on that movie already?

No, we’re still sort of talking about it. Vin and I have talked about this one for a while, because the intent is to do 8, 9, and 10 and to make it a trilogy. So how do they all connect, what are we moving toward, what’s that final end point? We’ve been playing around with that stuff, and the studio has announced dates on it, but in terms of the script actually being written right now, we’re not at that stage yet.

Is there anything at all that you can tell me about those conversations that you’ve had about Fast 9? Any hint at all about what we might see?

Not really, other than just the things we set up in 8, we’re going to pay off in the trilogy. But other than that, it’s all kind of under wraps, unfortunately.

Hard to believe that Morgan has written 6 of the 8 movies and will probably write parts 9 and 10.

It's kind of a shame they couldn't get Gary Scott Thompson to come back in some form as he wrote the original movie.

I haven't watched Fast 8 yet but if the feud between Vin and the Rock is real, the Rock won't be appearing in the next 2 movies?

Edit - Nevermind. The Hobbs thread kind of answer it.

There is no word on that yet. There has been talks about a spinoff for Hobbs: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/movie-talk/...umors-etc.html

Well that's going to throw things off now.

I thought the whole idea was to get the final movie out by 2021, which would be the franchise's 20th anniversary. Unless they shoot 9 and 10 back to back. They did try fast tracking 7 to get that out earlier, but that fell apart when Walker died.

Many of the franchise stars are returning, led by Vin Diesel. It is unclear whether Dwayne Johnson will return.
That's odd. I know him and Vin had beef on the last one, but is he really talking about walking away? Or is he just demanding a huge paycheck?

The Producers are developing the Hobbs spinoff. If that gets the greenlight, I assume that takes priority over him returning for the 9th film.

WTF?

I guess he's mad at The Rock for becoming more important to the franchise than he is? The dude needs to chill out before they write him out.

Wasn't he in a couple Transformers movies too? I keep seeing Josh Duhamel in those roles, but did he get written out or killed off or something?

Ooh, guess this feud is back on! Grab the popcorn, kids!

Did a little research and Hiram Garcia (@hhgarcia41) is Dwayne Johnson's ex-brother-in-law and produces basically everything that Dwayne does. Between this and Michelle Rodriguez's complaints of the lesser importance of females in the franchise, and I'd say this family is fraying at the seams.

Tyrese was supposed to be in the most recent Transformers movie, but there were scheduling conflicts with F&F8.

It was a great run. It was inevitable that these things would happen at some point with all the money it is making. Michelle Rodriguez's complaints are probably about her pay not screen time.

Sources also say Justin Lin may be lining up to return to the franchise and is the top man to helm the core entry of Fast 9.

re: Fast & Furious 9 (April 10, 2020, D: Lin)

Yeah Tyrese has been pissed a Rock for a while now. Earlier he was begging him not to do the Hobbs spinoff. That F&F was all about family, and Hobbs movie would take away from F&F, delay it, etc etc.

If you move forward with that #Hobbs Movie you will have purposely ignored the heart to heart moment we had in my sprinter,I don’t wanna hear from you until you remember what we talked about. I’m on your timeline cause you’re not responding to my text messages – #FastFamily is just that a family…….. We don’t fly solo.
I don't do email bruh You got my cell same San Diego # hit me
The Rock cant feel bad that he has a career, and for some F&F is all they have.

Yeah, is that heart-to-heart really worth a $20m+ paycheck for The Rock though

And shouldnt Tyrese really be mad at the producers and Universal for wanting to make a Hobbs movie?

Tyrese is being a bitch. He is just upset that he doesn't have the charisma or appeal Dwayne does and I would bet my life if a solo movie with him and say Ludacris for example was offered to him he would have jumped at it no question.
