Jumanji: Welcome the Jungle (2017, D: Jake Kasdan) S: Johnson, Hart, Black, Gillan

'Jumanji' Remake Finds Its Director
Jake Kasdan has signed on to direct Columbia Pictures’ remake of Jumanji, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
But with the film slated for a release of Dec. 25, the new helmer is going to have to move lightning fast.
The new project is a remake of the 1995 movie that starred Robin Williams and is considered a 1990s gem. The movie adapted Chris Van Allsburg’s Caldecott Medal-winning adventure book and told the story of two kids who let loose a man trapped for decades in a board game. Unfortunately, they also unleash a jungle’s worth of creatures into the world.
The new project is being described as a new take on the book.
Matt Tolmach is producing and shepherding the project. Bill Teitler is also producing. Ted Field and Mike Weber will executive produce. Van Allsburg will also executive produce.
Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner wrote the script, working off of a draft by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Kasdan showed a deft for sweet-natured comedy directing episodes of Freaks and Geeks and comedic fare such as New Girl and the Cameron Diaz-comedy Bad Teacher. He also directed the comedy bomb, Sex Tape.

Re: Jumanji reboot (12/25/2016) - News, Cast, Rumors
Wasn't there only one Jumanji movie? A reboot would mean there would have to be a prior series of movies. This is more of a remake.

Or a reboot could mean another run at making a movie based on a property without directly remaking the previous story... but that still doesn't seem to apply here since the original source was a book.

This is now scheduled to come out on July 28, 2017, as part of a four movie date swap that just took place between Disney/Marvel and Sony. Star Wars Episode VIII moved to December 17, 2017. Disney then moved Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales to SW's old date of May 26, 2017. In turn Sony moved their MCU Spider-Man reboot to POTC's old date of July 7, 2017, and placed Jumanji in SM's old date of July 28, 2017.

Thank God they are remaking something that is as ancient as this one. Do you think this version will be a talkie?

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart are in early talks to star in Sony’s “Jumanji,” sources tell Variety. Schedules are still being worked out, as both actors have heavy production loads ahead, but insiders say things are moving toward a deal.

Having rewatched the original in the wake of Robin Williams' death, I have no problems with this.

It's OFFICIAL: Love this script! Big movie news that me and my canine gal Shang are excited to share To produce, create and deliver original properties to fans like HBO's #ballers to this summer's #CentralIntelligence is one of the best parts of my job.
But to take great properties that are beloved worldwide like #BAYWATCH and #RAMPAGE and have the opportunity reimagine their stories in dope new ways to a whole new generation is truly an honor.
It's official. We'll produce and deliver to a whole new generation a title that I love and is one of my all time favs:
There's games you play for fun...
then there's games that change your life.
JUMANJI
Working on edging up an already very good script with my @sevenbucksprod team. Up next is meeting with our producer Matt Tolmach and director Jake Kasdan. Shooting starts this fall.
Promise to deliver something cool and special.. and not screw the whole damn thing up. As always I'll keep you posted. This is gonna be fun.

Does it?
I love The Rock but some of these recent choices are really going to test his draw. Baywatch will very likely be abysmal, Rampage isn't even rolling, Ballers is a mediocre way to waste time, Central Intelligence will probably be a modest hit, and Rampage isn't even rolling yet.

And if he ever needs even more money...he can just agree to a Hobbs spinoff movie and make bank off that.

Is it, though? Baywatch is mostly remembered for red swimsuits and Pam's tits. And The Hoff. Unless they somehow manage to craft an incredibly good story I can't at all imagine it's going to pull in big numbers.

I don't think a film w/ The Rock needs an "incredibly" good story to make a shit ton of money. Needs The Rock plus a cool trailer. Bang. There's your money. But mostly? The Rock being involved somehow and people know he's in it.

Baywatch i would imagine not only her but the rest of the main female cast running around half-naked; as well as Hoff and Pam both making an appearance. i'll say it does somewhere between San Andreas and Fast 5.

They managed to get ratings with that. Is it really that inconceivable that a movie can do well with a bad story?

So, The Rock will be in Williams role, Jack Black will probably be the hunter, and Kevin Hart will be in the Kirsten Dunst's role?

I don't understand why it can't just be considered a sequel. The ending of the first one sets up a continuation very easily.

And now in two weeks I'll reunite with ol' friends Kevin Hart & Jack Black and we have the honor to introduce a whole new generation to the amazing world of #JUMANJI. *(for the record we are NOT making a reboot, but rather a continuation of the awesome JUMANJI story). It's also crazy to me how much me, Kev and Jack look like triplets when we're together. Man this is gonna be FUN.
