Unless they pull a left turn into nowheresville this is the most consistent season since the first. Right now I think Asylum > Murder House > Hotel > Freak Show > Coven.

^ Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with you. This show always has its detractors, but I've generally enjoyed this season, despite my initial misgivings about the addition of Gaga. I would actually rank the seasons the same way. My friends thank I'm crazy. They are Coven apologists, but I think that season had the biggest drop in quality as it went than any other season.

I also like starseed1989's ranking. Coven is my least favorite season and I haven't rewatched it since it's original airing. A few days back I watched my favorite Freak Show episodes which includes the Pepper story and how she ended up in the asylum.

This is it? I thought this season had 13 episodes?

They must've cut a few storylines. I remember Emma Roberts stating that she had a role in the final third of the season (and this was only four months ago) and Ryan Murphy also stated that a bunch of characters from Murder House would show up. Maybe that'll still happen tonight??

Cant' really rank them all until I see tonight's finale, but I do this. As good as some of the Freak Show episodes were (Twisty!) it had by far the worst wrap up IMO. Even the Murder House season fell apart at the end. So ranking AHS gets real difficult depending on if one focuses on the best episodes or terrible endings.

even before I see tonight's episode, my ranking is: Hotel -> Murder House -> Asylum -> Coven -> Freak Show.

Which means that up until this season, I've always felt I was watching the least enjoyable season. Coven gets a lot of flack, well deservedly, but I liked it more than Freak Show mostly due to the performance of Angela Bassett. She was excellent in Coven, but totally wasted in Freak Show, and I thought the CGI of Sarah Paulson's second head was really distracting. Really, the only things enjoyable about Freak Show were Twisty the Clown, and Ma Petite.

I really liked Mat Fraser's role in this, when he was given something to do other than have his arms in view. I also thought Denis O'Hare was awesome as the villain that collects freaks. I wanted to kill him myself.

For some reason I was thinking this was going to be a 13 episode season. Only season one was 12... so I was surprised that tonights episode was the finale! =O

I put this one even with Freak Show, with Asylum as #1 and Murder House as #2. Coven in last place. I had read that this episode would be a tear jerker somehow, but nothing came remotely close to that for me. Any word yet on next season's plot?

Excellent finale! Probably their strongest season finale IMHO. The entire episode was just fun. Bring on season 6!

Someone remind me how the serial killers can be ghosts (but only on Devil's Night) but even though they didn't die in the hotel. That seems to be the case for John too, as it looked like he died outside of the hotel property line. So his family can only see him the one night of the year...is that right?

I enjoyed this season quite a bit. As usual way too many storylines but the look/feel was terrific.
I was skeptical about Gaga at the outset, but she won me over from her first appearance. Denis O'Hare, Kathy Bates, and Evan Peters killed it EVERY time they were onscreen.

My DVR cut off at the end of (what I assume was the final shot) the scene where Gaga is at the bar talking to the guy with the jawline. Can anyone confirm that?

Yep that is the last scene.

I enjoyed the finale a lot, and I did get choked up over Liz Taylor I got to admit it. They dialed things back this year, so they were able to keep things just a bit tighter. Gaga was a suprise this year as she did great, but the real stars were Denis O'Hare and Evan Peters.

The confusing thing near the end was that I couldn't remember if some of the characters were alive, dead or vampire.

What happened to the Countess' baby?

I gave up on keeping that straight a few episodes ago.

I also got sad over Liz Taylor. I hope Denis O' Hare gets an Emmy nod.

I also couldn't remember which handsome dark-haired guy was Liz's love versus Kathy Bates' son. For a minute I was thinking they were the same character.

I haven't watched Freak Show yet, but this ranking is close to my feelings. I don't like Asylum as much as most, pretty much just because the subject matter and setting didn't do a lot for me. I may even put Coven ahead of it because I just thought that season was more fun.

I have yet to be disappointed by this show (except for maybe some of the finales seeming to lose steam).

Re: American Horror Story: Hotel (S5E12) - Season Finale - "Be Our Guest" - 1/13/15

Awesome season all the way through. As I posted earlier, it's hard to rank the rest just because some episodes within each season were very strong, but each season also contained so many clunkers. Including the endings. But given just how terrible the Freak Show season ended, I guess I would put the other 3 seasons all in a second tier with Hotel at the very top and Freak Show way below all others at the bottom.

Best part for me was seeing Liz take over in so many different ways. And finally getting Tristan back after death.

Who played Scarlet as an adult? Looked familiar, but was distracted by what was probably a bad wig.

Maybe I missed it, but did they ever say what/who the creepy rapist guy was with the metal Johnson?

I thought the season overall was OK and certainly better than Freak Show and Coven. Didn't come close to Murder House or Asylum (the best one).

What was the last line the Countess said? I replayed it multiple times and still I'm not sure what it was.
