Re: The Flash (S2E09) -- Mid-season Finale -- "Running to Stand Still" -- 12/8/15

I knew it would be a great episode when I saw that Andrew Kreisberg had written it. He's the main producer from the Arrowverse that "gets" superhero storytelling. Putting Barry in a hopeless situation like that was classic and also showed the worth of team Flash at the same time. Though the hokey science explanation by Wells was also classic...classically bad.

I guess Captain Cold ditched town after he warned Barry. I was so sure that Barry would pull his mask off and reveal his identity to Patty when she had Weather Wizard at gun point.

Wally had been rumored so much that his first appearance lacked the punch I would have liked. The only thing weird with Wally will be his age. Is he supposed to be a teenager or young adult?

He's a young adult, just like 2-4 years younger than Iris and Barry

Which I don't like that much as someone that is a very big Wally West fan. I hope this doesn't turn into Ray Palmer all over again, when the writers graft whatever they want onto a preexisting character. I trust Flash's producers but I get the feeling this Wally is as much a creation of the CW's executives as the show itself.

Hopefully they respect Wally's character.

Enjoyed it like always. Only issue is they need to stop saying other Wells as it was never him.

Re: The Flash (S2E09) -- Mid-season Finale -- "Running to Stand Still" -- 12/8/15

good ep, even if it's always going to bug me a little bit that Captain Cold is 100% about that freeze gun. Made even worse this ep by having another villain show up that totally steals Captain Cold's freeze/ice gig by way of weather control.

I was pretty sure Flash was going to spill is identity to stop Patty from shooting anyone so I'm glad the writers did not crutch up on that. I'm sure she will find out sooner or later but it nice when someone doesn't find out in like two eps.

bonus nerd points for having Flash run on the blades of a helicopter in mid-flight, that was a nice visual effect for a tv show.

You know what is incredibly stupid? That DC Comics doesn't have either Green Arrow or the Flash figure in stock right now at any level of distribution. Basically, the figures are discontinued and can't be found anywhere for their retail value. Those who have it, have been selling them at collector's level of pricing. This would have been a great opportunity for them to have kids and parents buy these figures for Christmas, but DC is so idiotic at a corporate level that they simply don't have the 2 main figures from their most popular shows available.

Yeah. The comic is going to be digital first, like Arrow and Flash and then released in print.

I think that the Smallville: Season 11 comic has been running for a while. I believe it did the digital release pattern too.

Even for comic book logic, WTF was with the one bomb magically magnetizing all of the others? That made no sense, is everything on Earth 2 reversed polarity or something?

Yeah, he should be younger but I'm thinking when he becomes Kid Flash he will eventually meet up with Arsenal. I've heard he is coming back for a few ep. on either Arrow or Flash.

Doesn't the DC universe have an abundance of "cold" villains?

I totally see and hear the Joker from Batman/JL animated when Hamill does The Trickster.

Wow, that was one of the most poorly written episodes in a while. There were so many bad/cringy lines. Also the entire magnet bomb idea was just stupid. This episode was great in concept (Captain Cold/Trickster) but ended up being a waste of Mark Hamill. Wally West subplot is pretty awful too.

Hamill played The Trickster in the original Flash series. You guys also must have missed the episode of JLU where The Trickster appeared- Hamill voiced that one too.

Yeah, it was clear Wally was going to make an appearance from the beginning since Barry's stand-in father was Joe West. That said, I wonder how/if they're going to give Wally super-speed?

Yeah, that was parody-level bad. Not that it excuses it, but that's the exact sort of solution comics in the '60s would've come up with.

I tought the Flash-Weather Wizard air chase was nifty. Lots of great visuals.
Which reminds me, The Trickster(Mark Hamill is AWESOME!) in the comics had special shoes that he used to run walk/run on the air currents.
I wonder if we will ever see the TV Trickster create and use those shoes.

Shorting out or jamming etc. .. would have been better. Sure they would still have to gather them up yet still better than that. It was really bad.

Yeah, I mean my post may of been pretty negative, but it's just because I love this show so much, so when something is bad (and especially as bad as this episode) it bums me out.

I get that it's a comic show and not everything needs to make sense, but when something is as crucial to the plot of the episode as that, and it's stupidly explained, I can't just ignore it.

I think it's mainly because my expectations were set so high with the cold (lol) opening showing it was a X-Mas episode and that also Mark Hamill was in it again, and it just completely flopped for me.

I know all of that. I just agree with Red Dog that he seems to be doing the JL Joker voice here.
