Starcraft kind of lost it's hype, especially as MOBA's have taken over over RTS games. That said, it still sold over a million copies in its first day.

That's because Blizzard took too friggin long. The original plan was for WoL in 2010, HotS in mid-2011 and LotV in late 2012. Yeah they really kept to that schedule. They took too long and people moved on.
