David Bowie -- "Blackstar" -- January 8, 2016 -- New Album
http://pitchfork.com/news/61774-davi...ar-in-january/
On January 8, 2016, David Bowie will release a new album called Blackstar, the Times of London reports. The 7-song LP was reportedly recorded at the Magic Shop studio in New York with local jazz musicians. Its 10-minute title track, recently excerpted as the theme tune for the Sky Atlantic heist series The Last Panthers, is apparently due November 19. (That track will also feature in Lazarus, the stage show Bowie is co-writing.) The Times describes the record as "an album of long, jazzy jams mixed with the kind of driving beat pioneered by Seventies German bands Can and Kraftwerk."
Elsewhere in the story, which quotes a "Bowie insider" who claims to have heard the finished record, the full title track is said to contain "Gregorian chants, a soul section, various electronic beats and bleeps and Bowie's distinctive vocals." The source describes the record as "completely bonkers."
As yet, there's no confirmation from Bowie's camp.
------
Sounds interesting and that he is building off the new track "Sue" from the recent hits release.

Loved The Next Day and still listen to it regularly. Can't wait for this one. From the description above I am hoping for Station To Station II.

From Bowie's website:
I can't wait!
It can now be confirmed that ‘Blackstar’ is the forthcoming single and album from David Bowie.
Contrary to inaccurate reporting on the sound and content of the album, only the following can be confirmed:
The single will be released on November 20th and is not part of David’s theatre piece ‘Lazarus’.
The album will be released on David’s birthday, January 8th 2016.

I mentioned it in the vinyl deals thread but Amazon has The Next Day for $9 on vinyl. Killer deal and includes the CD.

I'm really excited about this.
I had been very disappointed with "Reality" and was sad for a long time that it would be his last album (so it seemed). Then "The Next Day" arrived out of the blue and was a pretty good album, IMHO.
So, I'm hoping he's made another good album cause at this point each album could be the last one he decides to release, so any bad album from this point on could be a potentially bad swan song.

I had no idea this was happening, so this is great news. "The Next Day" was in my top 3 albums of 2013. I also loved both "Heathen" and "Reality". Was just talking about Bowie with friends this weekend. I said should he do one more live show anywhere in the world, I would pay handsomely to go. Not that I have that kind of money (I don't). But I'd give anything to see him perform again. I've only had the pleasure of seeing him once. And he is my favorite male vocalist of all-time.

The album is now available for pre-order. There's a limited edition vinyl that's only at Bowie's web store and Barnes and Noble, and also lithographs only on Bowie's web store. There's also a regular vinyl available at Amazon.

Yeah, I got an email which said B&N, but I don't see it on there either. Maybe it hasn't populated yet.

It's finally on B&N but that's a $35 vinyl shipped and with tax.
Granted, it's like $2 cheaper on Amazon. I do like color vinyl, though.

I ordered from B&N. The lithographs are cool but I already have a ton of shit in frames that aren't even up on my walls.

I don't know Bowie outside of a few of his movies and hit songs.
The Blackstar track is incredible. I wouldn't have found it if it weren't for you guys.

I can't get enough of the Blackstar track. It's a track I'm going to be listening to in 20 years.
I don't anticipate albums much (if ever). But I have to buy this on day one.

I saw him as part of a festival show (with Busta Rhymes and the Blue Man Group! ). That was to promote Heathen, IIRC. I then saw all four shows of the Reality tour that he did in L.A. Some of the best shows I've ever seen.
