This is from the Producers of The Blacklist and the creator of Leverage. This is Wesley Snipes 1st television role. And as some of you know, this is starring the co-lead of Strike Back, Philip Winchester. His Strike Back co-star is the lead of Blindspot.

Dominic Patten, Deadline.com's TV critic liked it. He gave it a pretty positive review.

The reviewer for Forbes magazine loved it

This might be the stupidest show of the new fall season.

Re: The Player (S1E01) -- "Pilot" -- 9/24/15

I thought it was fun. It was a little bit of Las Vegas, Strike Back and maybe a little 24. I do like the setting and there was a lot of action in this 1st episode.

The only angle that's odd and kind of silly is the mysterious shadow organization that Mr. Johnson and Cassandra are running. I don't quite understand what they are getting out of it besides getting paid. So some rich folks are placing bets to see if Alex can complete the missions and the degree of difficulty changes the odds? Kind of obvious he's going to be successful. Are there people wagering that he will fail? Alex did ask Johnson about the last Player and got no answer, so I assume he died.

at Mr. Johnson playing the fake ole boy FBI agent and showing that video that no one could find. That was actually a funny scene and Snipes can be funny. The cop said that angle didn't exist from that Casino, so I'm presuming it was from a satellite or drone.

The reveal at the end at Cassandra knows Alex's dead wife might be an interesting plot point for later. Are they related or friends?

Winchester definitely had more personality here than Stapleton had on Blindspot. Well it was the Pilot episode that set things up, we'll see how they take the premise next week.

I only made it through 30 minutes. The whole predicting crime before it happens was just too ridiculous. And besides isn't there a bunch of shows that already do this?

This show was like the Blacklist but with a more ridiculous plot and no James Spader.

Aren't they all basically the same show? One has occasional Bradley Cooper.

snipes said why they bet. they bet because if they didn't, they'd be out assassinating presidents and starting wars.

pretty sure the wife is not dead. body in the morgue didn't have the tattoo on her finger like her wife did. so i assume body double or some other sort of trickery. i assume the wife will turn up later in the season at some point.

I completely agree.

I had no plans to watch this, but there was nothing else on, so I did. Better than I'd thought, and as others have said I felt there were similarities with Blindspot and Minority Report, but I'm still uncertain of it. Now that we've established the status quo we'll have to see just what direction the show goes (how much serialization vs. how much procedural, how much characterization, humor, etc. they can fit in, and so on).

"Of the new fall season" is an understatement. It makes H50 look 100% realistic.

I just wish the billionaire cabal were wagering quatloos. Seems obvious that he's going to have a high success rate, if not always succeed, and speaking as a gambler, that will make his odds absurdly short so that you have to lay huge amounts to pay little that he wins.

I thought Snipes was supposed to be the star of this show. I guess he's the highest paid. Nice work for about 5 minutes an episode. Now how many episodes that is, well.....

Cassandra specifically states that people will bet against him.

The gentleman Snipes is standing over in the first five seconds of the show was the former player. So yeah... He died.

I am going to wager that he does fail at some point, but he doesn't die.

I liked this pilot and cast far better than Blindspot. The premise is ridiculous but I am sure it will change over time. NBC should have been pushing this series harder than Blindspot.

Sadly, this show better find an audience very quickly. Ratings were pretty bad for a Thursday debut.

For me, Blindspot is just incredibly boring. There's no levity. No joy. Nothing. I realize that, particularly in the first few episodes, that may come at a premium, but without any charm or charisma eminating from any of the actors, or any chemistry showing up in screen, there has to be something "more" to keep me interested. And there's just nothing there.

The Player, on the other hand, while having an absolutely insane premise that only half makes sense, was fun to watch. Snipes seemed to be legitimately enjoying himself on screen. The main character was played brilliantly, with enough subtly to convincingly be portrayed as confident, as opposed to cocky. Toss in a little fast action, and it's enough.

I agree, as well, that there will be various moments throughout the series where he fails, but doesn't die. I feel like they'll introduce a former player who somehow got out at some point if the series makes it past a short first season. Pit him against the main character. They'll probably have an episode where he and Snipes are cut off from access to the female character or the database, and it'll just be the two of them teaming up to come out alive. I'd wager we'll see, as his success rate goes up, gamblers trying to rig the system in their favor.

How funny. His "murdered" wife was an assassin on Castle this week. Looks like she is making the rounds.

Was it realistic...absolutely not. Was it fun...yeah, I enjoyed it. Snipes was cool as usual. We know the wife isn't dead so I'm reasonably interested in finding out what happened to her.

Now expecting Player, Blacklist, and Blindspot to at some point do one epic crossover.

Re: The Player (S1E01) -- "Pilot" -- 9/24/15

Even though it is a ridiculous concept to predict crime (and one that seems to be getting used a lot on TV currently), I think I enjoyed this most out of all the pilots from last week. Good action and it reminded me more of the adventure/action type high concept shows you would've saw on the air in the '70s or '80s.

This was a really fun pilot with a lot of adrenaline, I thought. That said, I kind of hate the high-tech betting aspect--it's just too unbelievable. But otherwise, the show had a real 24 vibe. I enjoyed Limitless more than this, but I liked this more than Blindspot.

Definitely a fun show. I was expecting something like Las Vegas, and what I got is something I can't quite put my finger on. The premise is ludicrous, but it was an enjoyable hour. I will give this a shot, with the expectation that it won't last very long.

Even if it does really poorly, hopefully they will let them ride out and complete the pilot story line.
