Castle (ABC) -- Season 8 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/15

SEASON 8 OF "CASTLE" KICKS OFF WITH A TWO-PART GAMECHANGER, SEPTEMBER 21 ON ABC

Jack Coleman Returns

"XY" - After passing the Captain's exam in the Season 7 finale, Beckett was surprised with an offer to run for State Senate. In the action packed season premiere, Castle and Beckett are adjusting to Beckett's career change, when a call from a mysterious stranger sets off an explosive chain of events. There are two sides to every story, and this unique two-parter will explore the same story from each of their perspectives, first from Castle's side as he searches for Beckett in the exciting Season 8 premiere, "XY." Season 8 of "Castle" begins on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 (10:01-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on the ABC Television Network.

"Castle" stars Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle, Stana Katic as NYPD Detective Kate Beckett, Tamala Jones as Medical Examiner Lanie Parish, Jon Huertas as NYPD Detective Javier Esposito, Seamus Dever as NYPD Detective Kevin Ryan, Molly Quinn as Alexis Castle with Susan Sullivan as Martha Rodgers. For Season 8, Toks Olagundoye ("The Neighbors") joins the series as Hayley, a quick-witted, free-spirited, former Scotland Yard police officer who works as a security specialist and is not afraid to cross lines to get things done.

Guest cast: Sunkrish Bala as Vikram Singh, Brad Lee Wind as Franco Mancini, Coby Ryan McLaughlin as Brooks, Jack Coleman as Senator Will Bracken, Daisy Betts as A.J.

"XY" was written by Terence Paul Winter & Alexi Hawley and directed by Rob Bowman.

"Castle" is produced by ABC Studios. Executive producers are Terence Paul Winter, Alexi Hawley, Rob Bowman, Rob Hanning and Armyan Bernstein.

Expected to be a 22-23 episode 8th season

After 7 seasons of episode threads, I've decided to make Castle a season thread. Sorry, there's just too much content for this upcoming TV season. I still love the show, but I know not every week has compelling discussion.

I wonder if they will solve the case?

Considering what an ordeal it was to re-sign Stana, I think that's a fair assumption. She and Nathan are now on 1 year deals and it becomes really difficult to re-sign talent after their initial 7 year contract ends.

Good question.

In the end, renewal will be dependent on how much $$$$ is coming in from the show's off-network syndication reruns deals vs the production costs (ie. the salaries of the leads, etc ...).

At this stage of season 8, ratings seem to be less of an issue.

Castle is already syndicated on TNT and many local ABC affiliates also air repeats late night. The show doesn't have a streaming deal though for past seasons.

I enjoy the show week to week. It's not the best thing out there, but it is always a fun watch.

Odd. Why did I think this was only renewed for a 13 episode order to close out the series? While the show has fallen off from what it once was, it still tends to be a fun watch.

Love watching the earlier episodes before they got together. It was a must watch for us. It is still enjoyable but now more from momentum than from quality. We like it, but it has lost much of the charm. It got boring once they hooked up for good.

It used to be a must-watch for me too, but now I watch episodes when they're on and don't worry if I miss one.

We both get up early so we haven't watched it at 10:00 ever. We DVR and then watch on Friday nights after dinner. We used to save the episodes, binge watch again in the spring, then get the DVD upon release. Now we just save a few really good ones and haven't gotten the DVD's for the last couple seasons.

I usually get home between 10 and 10:30 on Monday nights so I'll watch it as it's on. I always think about going back to watch the beginning but rarely do. And yes, I know this is a terrible way to watch a police procedural, but that kind of sums up how it's a casual watch for me.

Alexis is looking good. She needs to dress up more often.

That was an awesome opening episode.

Loved Daisy Betts as the hit woman and that shootout in the police station was pretty wild.

at Castle being tortured with spiders.

Poor Castle, Kate has more secrets.

Over 7 seasons Castle and Beckett have done everything but diverting Armageddon.

Maybe we should kill her off for real this time?

Yeah this show used to cleanse my pilot afte Sundays, now it's like they can't go 5 eps without someone going off the grid against like 10:1 odds.

Another "I can't tell you what's going on for your own protection, even though I know that by not telling you it means you'll come after me and stumble into dangerous situations unprepared" plot.

Alexis was a bright spot in this episode, I wouldn't mind seeing her getting more involved with the cases this season.

Alexis Castle, PI

I'd watch that spinoff.

The show isn't what it once was but it's still enjoyable to watch. I could have lived without the spider torture though - that was way too damn creepy for my taste.

Has it really been 7 seasons already? The mysterious Kate angle is played out for me at this stage of the show.

Re: Castle (ABC) -- Season 8 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/15

I'm on the fence about this show. I hadn't planned on watching it this season, but I forgot to delete the season pass from my second DVR. If I knew for sure it was the last season, I would soldier on, but as others have said, it's not what it used to be even though it's not what I would call bad television.

Re: Castle (ABC) -- Season 8 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/15

Apparently Stana Katic was busy shooting a movie when the premiere was shot, hence that's why Kate was only in a few scenes. They probably wrote the script based on her availability. She probably signed on to the movie when her Castle future was uncertain.

Lots of people on the Castle facebook page were unhappy with the 1st episode. Many said they hate the "dark" episodes and would rather have it back with the funny, light-hearted ones.

Re: Castle (ABC) -- Season 8 Thread -- Premieres 9/21/15

I enjoyed it, I like a mixture of fun and serious episodes.

The show has an unusual extra source of income with the books (and graphic novels ,which I don't know whether they're still doing), but the ratings for the Season premiere were not at all impressive, so I could definitely see this being the last Season for that reason.
