After 7 seasons of episode threads, I've decided to make Castle a season thread. Sorry, there's just too much content for this upcoming TV season. I still love the show, but I know not every week has compelling discussion.

I assume this is the last season, right? Has to be. Nevertheless, i'll watch.

Considering what an ordeal it was to re-sign Stana, I think that's a fair assumption. She and Nathan are now on 1 year deals and it becomes really difficult to re-sign talent after their initial 7 year contract ends.

In the end, renewal will be dependent on how much $$$$ is coming in from the show's off-network syndication reruns deals vs the production costs (ie. the salaries of the leads, etc ...).
At this stage of season 8, ratings seem to be less of an issue.

Castle is already syndicated on TNT and many local ABC affiliates also air repeats late night. The show doesn't have a streaming deal though for past seasons.

Odd. Why did I think this was only renewed for a 13 episode order to close out the series? While the show has fallen off from what it once was, it still tends to be a fun watch.

Love watching the earlier episodes before they got together. It was a must watch for us. It is still enjoyable but now more from momentum than from quality. We like it, but it has lost much of the charm. It got boring once they hooked up for good.

It used to be a must-watch for me too, but now I watch episodes when they're on and don't worry if I miss one.

We both get up early so we haven't watched it at 10:00 ever. We DVR and then watch on Friday nights after dinner. We used to save the episodes, binge watch again in the spring, then get the DVD upon release. Now we just save a few really good ones and haven't gotten the DVD's for the last couple seasons.

That was an awesome opening episode.
Loved Daisy Betts as the hit woman and that shootout in the police station was pretty wild.
at Castle being tortured with spiders.
Poor Castle, Kate has more secrets.

Maybe we should kill her off for real this time?

Another "I can't tell you what's going on for your own protection, even though I know that by not telling you it means you'll come after me and stumble into dangerous situations unprepared" plot.
Alexis was a bright spot in this episode, I wouldn't mind seeing her getting more involved with the cases this season.

The show isn't what it once was but it's still enjoyable to watch. I could have lived without the spider torture though - that was way too damn creepy for my taste.

Has it really been 7 seasons already? The mysterious Kate angle is played out for me at this stage of the show.

I'm on the fence about this show. I hadn't planned on watching it this season, but I forgot to delete the season pass from my second DVR. If I knew for sure it was the last season, I would soldier on, but as others have said, it's not what it used to be even though it's not what I would call bad television.

Apparently Stana Katic was busy shooting a movie when the premiere was shot, hence that's why Kate was only in a few scenes. They probably wrote the script based on her availability. She probably signed on to the movie when her Castle future was uncertain.
Lots of people on the Castle facebook page were unhappy with the 1st episode. Many said they hate the "dark" episodes and would rather have it back with the funny, light-hearted ones.

I enjoyed it, I like a mixture of fun and serious episodes.
The show has an unusual extra source of income with the books (and graphic novels ,which I don't know whether they're still doing), but the ratings for the Season premiere were not at all impressive, so I could definitely see this being the last Season for that reason.
