Weird, changed it to 8 of the sale DVDs, so over $35, and to shipping, not pick up, and the order went through??

Consider this; as bad as the store can be - without them, sales would be even worse with less competition.

Gotham's pricing is pure greed. The show wasn't that good to deserve such premium pricing.

And the fans will shell it out.

I'm uncertain that it's greed. We keep hearing about how physical media sales continue to decline, both DVD's and BD's. More titles are not making it to Blu, and more are not getting dvd releases either, especially for TV shows. If the studios are selling less copies and so making less profit then maybe they are trying to raise prices on the msrp and/or give the physical stores less of a wholesale discount?

If that's true then I can see the chains selling these for a higher price, especially early on to try to get more from buyers in the first couple of weeks.

Also, BB has that gc promotion on tv shows going this summer, and I can see where they might charge more for each show, in the hopes that that will push people to get to $50 or $100 in purchases in order to get those gc's. That sort of lowers the price back down on the shows like Gotham, though we consumers have to spend more to reach those thresholds and then the "money" back is in BB gc form, rather than as actual money. Better for BB, worse for us.

In any event, while I don't like this, I've seen too many shows I want this year go to MOD/DVD-R only, and I prefer the possibility of buying professionally manufactured discs, even at a higher price point, versus only having cheap burned copies available for sale.

What bothers me is the retail price for DVD-Rs, asking for the same amount as if it were pressed.

The question is... how long?

These are burned discs - what is the life span of DVD-Rs? These titles could be nothing more than coasters after some years.

Among the manufacturers that have done testing, there is consensus that, under recommended storage conditions, CD-R, DVD-R, and DVD+R discs should have a life expectancy of 100 to 200 years or more; CD-RW, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM discs should have a life expectancy of 25 years or more.

I do prefer manufactured discs as well.

Well, that's some comfort.

Re: Best Buy DVD prices (September 6th - 12th, 2015)

I would not trust a CD-R beyond ten years and I am talking about ones burned on archival media from over ten years ago. The quality of today's CD-Rs are shockingly poor. As the industry moved away from CD-R as a mass market product, their quality went into the toilet.

Oh yeah, generally the prices suck, particularly for the tv series. I could understand it better if they were professionally pressed, and we knew and they knew that they were never going to sell that many, but they were putting them out anyway and so in return I'd feel some responsibility to step up and support them. But how much can these really cost them?

That being said, I read some article, some where, some time ago, that stated that these wouldn't last too long. But I'm guessing that speedy1961 is better informed , so that is reassuring. Thanks speedy1961.
