Finishing a game by watching it on YouTube?

Since Metal Gear Solid 5 comes out today I wanted to finish up 3 last night. I'm finding the last boss to be a difficult to beat. I'm tempted to just watch the rest on YouTube instead. I usually get this weird guilty feeling like I'm less of a gamer for doing this and not truly "beating" the game.

The only other time I did this was with Assassins Creed 1. The game was boring me to death but I wanted to see how the story ended.

Has anyone else done this? Do you feel bad for not truly finishing the game?

I'll watch YT for hints if I get stuck, but I still finish the game.

I'll also look for hints and strategies on YT, but I've never just watched a game ending in place of finishing it. I have watched alternate endings on YT if I didn't have the motivation to finish it again.

Yes. If a game becomes more of a chore than fun I have no issue doing this at all. Especially now that I'm older and time is such a valuable commodity.

Not finishing a game seems really weird to me unless you hate playing it. I've got games where I don't have all the trophies yet, but I've finished the main story in them.

Nah, its probably like the rest of us who only have so much time to game these days with jobs, family, etc.

Heck, I watched a Youtube Video for Plants vs Zombies for the Endless Survival achievement and I STILL couldn't do it. Something about reaction times, etc, and I just couldn't keep up. It's the same to me as reading a guide, it just gives you an idea, albeit a little more in your face, but still the same idea.

The only endings I've ever watched are the "special" endings you only see when you get 100% or something. I'll play most games through to the end that I start, but I don't go around trying to find collectibles and stuff for trophies.

If I get to the point where I'm so frustrated with a game that I don't want to finish it, I don't care how the story ends. I don't feel bad, and I don't feel like I'm "less of a gamer", whatever that means.

I can't think of a game that I "finished" by just watching a video of it.

I've often used a video to help me "finish", but it hasn't involved video games.

Re: Finishing a game by watching it on YouTube?

The only game I couldn't beat that I started was the end boss on the first Dead Rising game (where you're boxing him on top of a tank that's surrounded by zombies). After dozens of attempts I threw my controller against my bedroom door and the controller shattered.

Re: Finishing a game by watching it on YouTube?

If I'm interested enough in a story to care how it ends, I'll keep playing. A good story isn't the only thing that will keep me playing a game, but I'll never quit one with a story that I'm invested in. By the time I give up on a game, I don't care enough about the way things wrap up to bother with watching a video. e.g. Watch Dogs.

you're having trouble facing The Boss? The game pretty much sets up for this w/ it's CQC. It's timing and skill. You lack one or both? Hahahaha. I loved that fight. The music, the imagery, and just the flow of it. Damn good boss fight.

Also helps out to mess w/ your camo depending on what you're doing in that fight.

--------------

Also to the question? Never. I beat that game. At best I'll search for details on the game if I think there's a glitch or sometimes the goddamn game doesn't tell you in any form wtf to do at some point. I'm still amazed at how some developers do that at times.

Re: Finishing a game by watching it on YouTube?

Can you drop the difficulty?

I play all my shit on "easy" just because I want the experience and not the frustration. I enjoy playing games but being 42 with a family, I just don;t have the time to spend hours on one boss fight. Too much other shit going on.

I just finished The Last Of Us and am considering watching the DLC story on Youtube just so I don't have to spend the 10 bucks.

I watched the good ending for Dark Souls after I inadvertently stumbled into the bad ending.

I'm debating if I should do this for Peace Walker because I cannot pass Dr. Stangelove's torturing.

Re: Finishing a game by watching it on YouTube?

How is watching a video finishing a game?

Just because you can see what happens if you actually completed it?

If you didn't beat the game, you didn't beat the game.

Of course this is coming from a guy with 91 platinums (and soon to be 93), and even max Grimoire on Destiny. I don't just finish games or even trophy lists. I try and finish everything.

True story: Back in the NES days I had a game called The Fantastic Adventures Of Dizzy, which was about a race of Egg people and had you going on a Zelda like quest to save their kingdom by solving puzzles and saving your girlfriend. As a kid, I couldn't complete it.

Flash forward to 2004, I got an NES Emulator and happened to find a ROM for this game. It took me 13 years, but I was finally able to finish the game.

What do you know; I just passed Dr. Strangelove's torture sequence. It's going be long while until I purchase Ground Zeroes or The Phantom Pain, however.

Yeah, I did it with Bio Shock Infinite, Burial at Sea Part II. When it came out, I could not be bothered to hook my PS3 back up to finish it.

I did this for the Call of Duty AW campaign. Just got bored with it.
