There's a thread on here somewhere that says it's already been hacked.

Too bad he's considering a 16:9 presentation.

Wasn't it already 16:9? I haven't watched it in a long time, but I'm pretty sure the DVDs were 16:9 at least.

Edit to add:

I found this on wikipedia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shield#DVD_releases

The first five seasons were originally distributed by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment for region 1. However, in 2008, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment became the rights holders for the DVDs.[20] They released season 6 and re-released seasons 1–5 in slimmer packaging in 2008, and released season 7 in 2009. International releases have always been distributed by Sony, who have only ever presented the show in 16:9 (widescreen) format, as opposed to the Fox releases, which presented the show in 4:3. All the re-releases by Sony along with seasons 6 and 7, and the complete series box set are presented in widescreen.[21]
So I guess it was 4:3 when it aired, but the DVDs from Sony were 16:9. I have the Sony DVDs. Honestly, I thought it looked fine in 16:9 and couldn't tell it was supposed to be 4:3.

Yeah they were reframed/opened up. I have the original releases, so seasons 1-5 or so were in 4:3 (with the exception of the extended S4 ep), before Sony. It's also in 4:3 on Hulu Plus now.

Even weirder though, is on streaming media the series finale has been split up into two episodes, with unnecessary scenes. Kind of ruins the impact of certain moments. That was not how it aired, and the DVD contains some of these deleted scenes (with Ryan's commentary as to why they were excised) but there's one scene that wasn't even on the DVD. It's a good moment for a certain character. It's probably for syndication, but since it's a freaking stream that shouldn't be an issue (outside extended sitcom eps, which still get split up even on DVDs).

The article in the OP has a quote from Shawn Ryan saying "we always filmed for widescreen safe"

I have the DVD set, but I'll get the blu, as the packaging on the DVD set killed half the discs in the set.

After the excellent Freaks & Geeks & The Wire HD remasters, I am anticipating this more than ever. Any recent updates?
