Equilibrium: New Lionsgate release
The new release of "Equilibrium" is available on Amazon for $4.99. Anyone know if this is any better than the Echo Bridge versions, or is it just more of the same old thing?

It's such a shame that this cult classic has been handled so poorly by its American distributors. Most will recommend the Japanese BD if going for maximum A/V quality.

Looked at it at Bestbuy yesterday. See that it has no extras whatsoever so as much as I like the movie, I'll be skipping this one.

Are these 16:9 versions done in the full "open matte"?
Or are they an atrocious cropping (of the sides) of the original 2.39:1 version?

(Going offtopic).
On the topic of "open matte" vs. atrocious cropping, does anyone know whether the Alliance version of the Blade trilogy was done as "open matte" or atrociously cropping the original OAR version?

On the Alliance release of the Blade trilogy, only the first Blade movie has the incorrect aspect ratio of 1.78. II and III have the correct aspect ratios, but III is the theatrical cut.

Re: Equilibrium: New Lionsgate release
One of the earlier releases had a DTS-HD track if I recall.
The best release would depend on what's most important to you: subtitles, sound, aspect ratio or special features. I don't think there is a single domestic release with everything. I could be wrong, though.
I also have the Dimension DVD which has the OAR, subtitles, two commentaries and a featurette.
