Equilibrium: New Lionsgate release

The new release of "Equilibrium" is available on Amazon for $4.99. Anyone know if this is any better than the Echo Bridge versions, or is it just more of the same old thing?

No, the one you want is the one on this release. It's the only version that was released in the US with DTS-MA 5.1 audio. The other releases only have a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 track. I believe it also had the corrected aspect ratio, but can't remember for sure.

It's such a shame that this cult classic has been handled so poorly by its American distributors. Most will recommend the Japanese BD if going for maximum A/V quality.

Re: Equilibrium: New Lionsgate release

Looked at it at Bestbuy yesterday. See that it has no extras whatsoever so as much as I like the movie, I'll be skipping this one.

Re: Equilibrium: New Lionsgate release

Are these 16:9 versions done in the full "open matte"?

Or are they an atrocious cropping (of the sides) of the original 2.39:1 version?

Re: Equilibrium: New Lionsgate release

I believe at least the Alliance Canadian version is open matte.

(Going offtopic).

On the topic of "open matte" vs. atrocious cropping, does anyone know whether the Alliance version of the Blade trilogy was done as "open matte" or atrociously cropping the original OAR version?

The new blu-ray comes with a digital HD code. What version is the Ultraviolet copy?

On the Alliance release of the Blade trilogy, only the first Blade movie has the incorrect aspect ratio of 1.78. II and III have the correct aspect ratios, but III is the theatrical cut.

It's HDX and in 2.35:1. As a bonus, it has optional closed captions, which none of the recent physical releases seem to have.

So is this the best release yet? And does the 2.35:1 apply to the disc itself as well as the Ultraviolet copy? Thanks.

The disc is 2.35:1, but the audio is just Dolby Digital 5.1.
One of the earlier releases had a DTS-HD track if I recall.

The best release would depend on what's most important to you: subtitles, sound, aspect ratio or special features. I don't think there is a single domestic release with everything. I could be wrong, though.

I also have the Dimension DVD which has the OAR, subtitles, two commentaries and a featurette.
