Mascots (2016, D: Christopher Guest) - Netflix Original Film
Christopher Guest is making his next mockumentary for Netflix.
The streamer said on Tuesday that Guest will make Mascots for Netflix, to debut in 2016. The movie, to mirror earlier mockumentaries like The Best in Show and For Your Consideration, Guest's last film, will be set around a mascot competition competing for top prize.
"Welcome to all the drama, intrigue and occasional excitement of The 8th World Mascot Association Championships, where a group of 'unusual' men and women, with big heads and furry suits, compete to win the prestigious gold fluffy award and be crowned best mascot in the world," the flyer advertised.
There's no word on casting for Mascots, or whether long-time collaborators like Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara and Parker Posey are on board.

I thought For Your Consideration was a disappointment and Family Tree had its moments, but ultimately didn't rise up to to the quality of his earlier work. Still, this immediately shoots up to the top of my most anticipated movies list. I can't wait.

This almost strikes me as Netflix taking a shot at Hulu's Behind the Mask.
Almost.
Hope it's good.

Netflix has slotted October 13 for the global premiere of Christopher Guest’s comedy Mascots. His latest film, which stars many of his regular troupe of actors, takes place in the ultra-competitive world of sports mascots where they compete for the most prestigious award in their field, the Gold Fluffy.
Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Fred Willard, Ed Begley Jr., Christopher Moynihan, Don Lake, Brad Williams, Zach Woods, Chris O’Dowd, Susan Yeagley, Sarah Baker, Tom Bennett, Kerry Godliman, Bob Balaban, Jennifer Coolidge, Michael Hitchcock, Maria Blasucci, John Michael Higgins and Jim Piddock star. The film was written by Guest (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show) & Piddock and produced by Karen Murphy. Mascots will have its world premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival ahead of its Netflix debut.

No Eugene Levy and Catharine O'Hara!?! Were they busy with Schitt Creek or something?

Netflix only and no Eugene Levy and Catherine O Hara? What a shame. Obviously I'll still watch it, but still, a shame nonetheless.

I won't say it was wall-to-wall laughs but I enjoyed it. I did lol several times, especially during the competition. It was a pretty good idea for a movie. I'm sure if you enjoyed his previous movies, you should like this one.

1) It's $10 a month now and 2) Just subscribe you cheap fuck. Do you use a prepaid phone too?
I'm considered the penny pincher among my friends and even I think it's ridiculous that someone wouldn't want to pay for Netflix

I thought it was great. The Fist was the best part. I wish they'd had more of him, but when it comes to these mockumentaries "less is more" is usually a good rule to follow. If you love Waiting For Guffman (which is my favorite of Guest's films) then this is a must see. A character from that film returns.

I thought this was really blah. It wasn't by any stretch bad, but I'm not sure what motivated Guest to want to make it. None of the characters or story lines had any moments of inspired joy, or creative energy. I'd rather watch a movie that attempts something ambitious and fails than something that doesn't even seem to be trying.

I liked it and thought it was worth seeing--there were a number of classic Christopher Guest mocumentary laughs. But overall, I thought this was the least least realistic and least compelling premise for the whole thing. Rock and folk music, amateur theater, dog show--I think those things have a wider appeal for an audience than a sports mascot competition.

Just watched this. I liked it. Its better than all Guest's traditional narrative films, but probably the least of his mockumentaries. As per usual Fred Willard steals the show.
