Oliver Stone... hrmm. I don't think I like Stone from the modern era. Seems like he tries too hard.

I'm trying to think what was the last good Oliver Stone movie without resorting to IMDB. Nixon?

Anyway, this could be interesting but probably won't be (like W. turned out)

Interesting that Gordon-Levitt is coming out with two prestige films at the same time. I bet The Walk is the one that gets the awards attention.

Any Given Sunday
The new final cut of Alexander is great.

Wall Street 2 was cool, too.

Savages minus Blake Lively was fun, as well.

Yeah, I liked Any Given Sunday.
Didn't much care for Alexander, but didn't see the new cut.
Didn't watch Savages. Didn't realize that was him. There was a Ridley Scott film with a similar title that always confuse with it.

Would be much more interested if Stone weren't attached. Anyone ever see Citizenfour? Snowden is a fascinating subject but the reason why this is destined to fail b.o.-wise is the majority of Americans simply don't give a shit that they're all being documented, tapped and tagged. Out of sight, out of mind, no one cares.

Well, at lease Shailene let her hair grow out again. She looks like a tomboy with short hairs.

The underrated U-Turn was the last good film by Stone.

U-Turn and Heaven and Earth are dreck. The last legitimately good Oliver Stone film was Nixon.

Oliver Stone's 'Snowden' Pushed to 2016 (Exclusive)
by Tatiana Siegel
9/14/2015 4:00am PDT

The feature starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley is now bumped from this year's Oscar race.

Open Road is moving Oliver Stone’s Snowden from its Christmas Day release date to 2016.

The move bumps the film about Edward Snowden, the former government contractor who leaked classified information, from this year’s Oscar race. A spokesperson for Open Road Films did not comment.

Sources say the film, which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley, isn’t finished yet. Open Road hasn’t yet determined the film’s new release date.

The move gives some breathing room to the Christmas Day frame, busy with five other wide releases — Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, the Will Smith-starrer Concussion, the Will Ferrell-Mark Wahlberg comedy Daddy’s Home, the Jennifer Lawrence dramedy Joy and Point Break — as well as juggernaut Star Wars: The Force Awakens, opening the previous week.

Christmas Day also includes bows from Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight and the new Leonardo DiCaprio drama The Revenant from Oscar winner Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

Gordon-Levitt already has another film, TriStar’s The Walk, generating awards-season buzz for the actor.

The film has been eagerly anticipated given that it is the first narrative feature to tackle the polarizing figure considered a hero by some and a traitor by others. The Snowden documentary Citizenfour won this year’s best documentary Oscar. Kieran Fitzgerald and Stone wrote the screenplay.

Wildbunch is selling international territories on Snowden at the Toronto Film Festival.

Didn't similar happen to Monuments Men mostly because it sucked?

Seconded. Like JFK and Natural Born Killers, it's so well put together that infinitely re-watchable (despite it being 3+ hours long).

What happened to Stone's edge? He used to be on the cusp of what's exciting in American cinema, now he's just on fumes.

Hopefully, this new one might be a return to form.

I'll have to respectfully disagree. I'd say his films of the 2000s onwards don't have that much ambition at all compared to his heyday in the 80s and 90s.

I think you were looking for something else than I was. For me, it seems like he's trying too hard to be relevant, impactful, and culturally reactive to the current world culture. There's ambition in his films now too but they fall overly flat to where one would expect the content to go. All flash but no bang essentially.

I can buy that. I wish he could do something more intimate like Born on the Fourth of July. He simply lacks the piss and vinegar he used to.

All piss.... no vinegar. I guess?

He's got that fire in him to hit themes but not the power to make them have depth for the most part. It's just a lot of hollow.

Talking about Stone, I did watch Salvador a couple or a few years back. It had some hitting material in it but it just felt too bombastic in a way. Too much narrative spectacle. And it turned out that Stone changed it up a shit ton. Not too say that that's bad but I could feel that it was too much drama that it couldn't be real. It's a good film but it feels he's putting too much emotion into it where it just ends up spilling all over the film as it powers through some damn good moments.

Looks interesting but I don't trust Stone like I did in the 80's & 90's.
