Episode 22 of 22
Not yet renewed for a 5th season, but it's expected to get renewed.
Caught up to the finale finally. Pretty good stretch of episodes coming into this. Looking forward to seeing it.

Re: Person of Interest (S4E22) -- Season Finale -- "YHWH" -- 5/5/15
I like the show and I especially liked it when it first started but this idea that they built a machine or two and now they are looking at it as if it is some kind of god is just ridiculous. Machines, even A.I.s are just machines no matter how much power they are given. I personally am of the opinion that if a machine/AI was given unlimited access and control, that it would eventually try to destroy humans. A machine like that would have to be based on logic and mankind is not logical as a whole. Yes there are some that are logical but every human makes decisions in their life that can only be described as illogical. So a machine wouldn't want people around to interfere with the logic that it is using.

If this show took that path - that an AI would inevitably become Skynet, it would just be another evil AI story. As it is, these 2 AIs with different philosophies on how to help humanity and with the nature/nurture aspect of how they've brought along, just so much fresher.
I had ridiculous expectations for the finale based on this amazing season and the last balls to the wall 2 finales, and it started kind of slow, but that final 20 minutes starting from the fax were pretty spectacular.

The entire time Control was with the one guy and had a gun pointed at him I kept saying "Just shoot him already." The second she understood that there was no bomb she should have killed him and been ready for others to enter the room.

I'm not done, but I'm also not happy with where the show has been going. I wasn't sure if this was the season finale when I watched it and honestly when the credits rolled I was really hoping it was the penultimate episode that was setting up a much better finale.
EDIT: I'm checking out reaction over on reddit and people are like "When Welcome to the Machine cut in I cried" "I cried at FATHER". WTF! That whole sequence was ridiculous and it's one of the worst cases of picking an innapropriate song just for the lyrics I've ever seen.

I like the song but I found it a tonal misfit and way too busy and distracting for the scene, particularly with all changes in sound levels.

Holy shit! That action sequence at the end was totally ridiculous. Reese takes out like 30 guys by himself, doesn't get hit and seems to kneecap every single one of them?
So Samaritan deemed Lionel as harmless? I assume that's why he wasn't executed.

I liked it but it is a bit ridiculous that they always end with the team on the run. I do like how Samaritan will continue to be the overall bad guy, carrying over multiple seasons. This has always been an over the top action show, not really grounded in reality. If you are pissed about it not being realistic, then why have you been watching?

The ratings are in the toilet. Even if the show gets renewed, expect it to get dumped on Fridays or some other terrible slot.
I would have loved to come here and say I loved the finale. It was merely a decent finale for what had been a pretty good season. I guess we got to see through Reese what type of info the machine feeds Root in a firefight. The Pink Floyd song might have been cool if that scene had played out differently, but it made little sense in the middle of that chaos.
It surprised me that Finch and the gang were on the run the entire season, hiding in fake identities.

Great ending. If I remember correctly, I didn't like the first few episodes of the season, but as the season went on, it got much better. Overall, solid backend of episodes.

Not crazy about where they have handled this AI vs AI thing, but hopefully it gets better next season with Harold back to working directly with his Machine again.
And I liked the use of the song. A real obvious option I never though they would be allowed to do. Guess all those 60's artists are open to pretty much anything these days when it comes to commercials and other uses of their songs. I can remember not too long ago when the complete opposite was true.

I'm OK with it being a final season. They've had a good run and there's probably only so far the story can go without getting too contrived. This way they've got the full season to plan the end game.

13 episode order for season 5. Yup, it's the last season.
