21 Jump Street - female spin-off
I wonder if they will try and cash in on Dakota Johnson's new found "popularity".

A female-led spinoff of the 21 Jump Street series is in the works at Sony. The ink is still fresh, but I can confirm that Broad City writers Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs will write the screenplay based on the tone of the reboot series starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Columbia Pictures has released the previous installments.
The film series is a comedic take on the Fox television show created by Patrick Hasburgh and Stephen J. Cannell, which aired between 1987 and 1991. The series followed Johnny Depp and Peter DeLuise as young undercover cops that posed as high school students. The 2011 film and its sequel 22 Jump Street spoofed the premise of the series and were different in tone, leading to both critical and financial success. Hill and Tatum are set to reprise their roles for the upcoming 23 Jump Street. Sony is also currently developing on a female led Ghostbusters spinoff starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, with Paul Fieg set to direct.
Aniello and Downs serve as co-producers and writers on the Comedy Central series Broad City, which stars comedians Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer. Downs also plays a supporting character on the series, Trey the fitness instructor. The duo have written and directed the comedic short films Emmy Training Day, which starred Melissa McCarthy and Joel McHale, and Life After Emmy, which featured Kristin Chenoweth and Jeremy Piven.
Aniello and Downs are repped by UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Broad City writers / Trey
to this idea, I don't need to see male/female versions of every movie.

re: 21 Jump Street - female spin-off
Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux, writers on animated comedy Bob's Burgers, have signed on to work on Sony's female-centric 21 Jump Street project.
The sisters are the second writing team to board the project. Sony also has brought on Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs, who are working on Comedy Central’s buzzy Broad City. The studio liked a pitch from the Molyneux sisters, so it is moving forward with dual-track development, in which both writing teams are working on separate scripts for the comedy.
The 21 Jump Street franchise, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, has done strong business for Sony. The first two films have grossed more than $530 million worldwide. Sony also is planning a third installment in the Tatum-Hill franchise called 23 Jump Street, with Rodney Rothman writing the script.
Sony is brewing two female-centric spinoffs of its previous films. Paul Feig also is directing a female Ghostbusters film, which will star Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig.
The Molyneux sisters are writers and producers on Fox's Bob's Burgers through their overall with 20th Century Fox TV. The series was renewed for a fifth season in January. They also wrote the script for Hot Stuff at DreamWorks Animation, and their script My Sister Is Marrying a Douchebag landed on the 2009 Black List.
Also, Wendy Molyneux recently raised more than $30,000 for CureSearch through a crowdsourcing campaign in which she said if she raised $10,000, she would force herself to see the Entourage movie (she hated the TV series).
The Molyneux sisters are repped by WME, Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment and Morris Yorn.

It will need to be younger actresses. I would recommend Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone if they want to go with two girls who could conceivably be young enough to infiltrate college.

re: 21 Jump Street - female spin-off
EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures is setting Rodney Rothman to script, with an eye toward directing, a 21 Jump Street spinoff movie where the main cops are female. Neal Moritz is producing. This concept has been floated for a while, along with a separate film that will be a mash-up with 21 Jump Street stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum colliding with the hit Sony franchise Men in Black. That project remains in development.
Rothman has turned in the latest draft of that film, and he co-wrote 22 Jump Street, the $50 million-budgeted sequel that grossed $331 million worldwide. His other writing credits include Grudge Match and Get Him to the Greek. It is early days on this, and insiders said there are male characters in this latest version of what started as the 1987-91 Fox drama series by Patrick Hasburgh and Stephen J. Cannell. Rothman is repped by UTA.

Oh the outrage ... My dick is offended ... I'm a sexist troglodyte ... Blah blah blah ...
Seriously though, bring it! Against my normal tastes, I loved both 21 and 22 Jumpstreets. I would much rather see this than the MIB concept.
Wouldn't this just be Cagney and Lacey though?
I think this would be a tremendous comeback vehicle for Chloe Grace Moretz and Amanda Bynes.

Both 21/22 Jump Street are great, so i'd enjoy this. Just depends on the cast. Hell, throw Dakota Johnson in who was in the first movie briefly as another cop like the first post suggested.

22 Jump Street isn't better than the first one but it's still fun. Just a bit weak, nothing major to take it down too hard in quality.
Not too sure why they'd want to do a female version of this property. Sony has been acting desperate as fuck to get anything to stick to the wall. So not only are they remixing a property but wanting to do a gender swap thinking it'll be bigger?
What does Sony have as franchises? Jump Street, Ghostbusters, MIB, and what else?
They've Spidey too but that's a partnership w/ Marvel, only showing how badly they failed by themselves.

Bad Boys.
I guess they still have Bond, right? Or are they at risk of losing the rights?

Probably less so that it will be bigger, but moreso just keeping the franchise "alive" with more entries. Especially since I imagine Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum don't want to keep doing the same thing, hence the lampooning of sequels at the end of 22.

The only reason the movies were as good as they were was solely due to Hill and Tatum. Male or female it doesn't matter if the chemistry isn't right. it isn't like you could have plugged any 2 others into the 21/22 movies and have it be as good.
