Honestly I haven't seen the new film but the first one really isn't that bad for what it is. It isn't a great film but people honestly going to something like this expecting more than a dumb Kevin James film are the ones with the problem because they're clearly taking it too seriously. I get not being a fan of the humor but I highly doubt it's the worst film ever.

This opened to $24m this weekend, that's better than most comedies open to these days. This is also Kevin James' 3rd movie to score a 0%.

Obviously the studios KJ deals with know that there's a market out there of people who don't care about ratings and will happily throw their hard-earned money toward an unfunny fat guy stumbling through stupid situations. The theaters that show his films also probably have a snack bar tie-in featuring grilled cheese sandwiches and Pabst, and have port-a-potties at the end of every third row right in the theater.

Reading this makes me curious, although not curious enough to search myself, which actor has the most poorly reviewed movies? I'd guess Sandler is up there.

Is Sander still as big a box office draw as he used to be? I have friends who are huge fans, and while they still see his new stuff, it doesn't seem to ride the hype that it used to back when he was big.

People like these stupid movies because they want to laugh, not everything has to be high art. Speaking of that, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 made more in its first weekend than Tree Of Life did in its entire run. Stupid out performs pretentious. Not sure why people are surprised these films get made.

I actually enjoyed the first movie. My only issue was that, for a movie that's essentially spoofing Die Hard, it made the mistake of having an excessively long and dull first act. Die Hard was expedient with its first act. John, his wife, and the rest of the supporting cast were firmly established in an expedient (not to be confused with rushed) first act. After you get past the first act of Paul Blart: Mall Cop, you get a breezy comedy that, although completely disposable, is still quite entertaining.

That said, I was surprised how big a hit it ended up being.
