I'm so excited for this. Hope these last seven are spectacular. This show needs to go out with the recognition it deserves as one of the best ever. Felt like Breaking Bad (certainly also in that conversation) really stole its thunder last year. Time for Mad Men to leave its indelible mark of the landscape of Televison.

I just started watching this series the other day (after seeing a few random episodes here and there in the past), I'm amazed a show like this managed to stay on the air for 8 years, but it is impressively well made and goes at it's own rhythm. They cover a surprising amount of plot in that first season.

Looking forward to it.
I said over a year ago that with Breaking Bad finished and Mad Men about to end, that the only thing keeping AMC afloat was The Walking Dead. Since then they've spun off BB with Better Call Saul and have announced a spin-off to The Walking Dead... so it looks like that'll be their strategy - produce 3 shows and milk it to death with spin-offs. Are we gonna see a spin-off to Mad Men in the future? Sally Draper and Peggy running an Ad agency in the early 90's as the internet age approaches.

I'd suggest Kenny Cosgrove's science fiction-writing adventures, but I think HBO just green lit that series already.
I don't want to debate the pros and cons of binge watching, but it seems to me that this show, more than just about any other, should have been experienced in real time. It's a show about (more than anything else really) the passage of time and how it changes people and culture. There's something special about experiencing a TV decade over almost an entire decade. Things on this show are earned, things pay off after time, not quickly or easily.

^ I'll agree with you on that.
I find this is one of those shows that I think about for a few days after watching an episode. It leads me to appreciating it much more - the same way some films have that same effect on me. That would be lost on me if I binge-watched Mad Men. The same would hold true for Breaking Bad and Six Feet Under.

Is it even seven weeks, at the end of the episode tonight they said 5 weeks left. Maybe the last one is 2 hours?

It's listed online for six more weeks.
Great episode tonight. Noticed Pete quickly replaced Ted in Don's dream. I guess that is all she wrote for Ken. I wonder if every episode left is going to see Don face one of his former girls.

Yes, Ken had a great ending there.
And, yes, clearly not enough episodes left in the series. I've never been so engrossed with a series over such a long time. I could live with or without The Sopranos, and I didn't start watching Breaking Bad until the series was over. But I've been on Mad Men every episode.
The Rachel deal really threw me off until Don talked about it in the diner. Boy, she looked good in a fur. The first fur coat model too
In so many of the interviews, inside the show and out, they talk about how every character has major flaws, that does something amoral. Ken, unless I am forgetting something, has always been a very upstanding guy. He's made good decisions, I don't think he's been a cheater, he was always fair to the company. Then the episode tonight just opens the door for him to go ape-shit on the agency with no repurcussions.
The scene with Peggy and Joan solidifies that the firm is in no place to question McCann, and the firing of Ken shows exactly where their loyalty lies. Now they are going to have to deal with the wrath of the "collective ex-wife" (stolen quote from last season).
I thought Sally would be a big focus of these last few episodes, so I was surprised she wasn't in this one.

I liked the Ken stuff.
Had to LOL at Mr. Potato Head.
After all this waiting, 7 episodes seems ridiculously short.

1. Never watch 2 episodes in 1 day
2. Try to re-watch every episode, because you miss so much the 1st time around.
It really worked because I took time to let each episode process after watching it, and then looked out for things the 2nd time I watched it, and I have to be honest its one of those few shows that gets better on repeat viewings. I also re-read every episode thread after each episode just to see if my feelings were the same as you guys, and most of the time we came to same conclusions.
As for last night, I thought it was a nice start/setup for the last 7 episodes. I need to watch it again to really study the Don scenes, because I know there is alot of stuff to think about with Rachel's death and how he felt towards it. And I do love Roger's mustache!

I was scratching my head over Peggy's veal/you line.

I know I'm cheap when my biggest reaction was Joan not using her employee discount. Seriously though she took a shot at Peggy for being critical of the way she dressed, and she was rude to this girl in a position she was once in who was just trying to help, has she ever had a female friend on the show? Has she ever gotten through a conversation with a woman without throwing shade?

at Roger and Ted's goofy mustaches.
Good return. Glad there was no Megan and Don was at his womanizing ways. I think would probably hurt the show the last few seasons is domesticated and faithful Don simply doesn't work. He tried it with Megan and Don became boring. Liked Don's hook up with the waitress. Don's scenes were good because they had some underlying meaning to it.
Nice to see some Rebecca Creskoff and Elizabeth Reaser. Creskoff looked 10 years older compared to when she was on Hung.
Ken was great too and I loved that scene when he came in to see Ted and Roger.
at the guy who made the bra remark to Joan.
