The Muppets (ABC) - Season 1 Thread - Premieres 9/22/15

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/364...-series-reboot

The Muppets are returning home - to television. ABC is reportedly developing a reboot of "The Muppet Show" with a pilot slated to be shot this month according to TV Line.

"The Big Bang Theory" creator Bill Prady and Bob Kushell ("Third Rock From the Sun") will write and executive produce the reboot, the latter also serves as show runner, while Randall Einhorn will direct the pilot and produce.

Currently going by the working title of "Muppets 2015," there's already a synopsis: "The Muppets excitedly gather at ABC for a meeting about the new Muppet Show. However, the show will not move forward unless Miss Piggy signs on."

There's also talk that the series will be set behind the scenes of a late-night talk show. The original "The Muppet Show" ran between 1976 and 1981.

I liked the "new" Muppets movie with Jason Segel but the sequel not so much. If the new tv show is anywhere near the quality of the original show, I'm in.

The sequel was solid, but it took a good thirty minutes to really get going.

I loved Muppets Tonight as well. Speaking of, wasn't that exactly what this new show is about?

I wasn't a fan of Muppets Tonight, nor the several attempts at TV movies they've made over the last decade or so. I have liked the movies. I hope they go back to something similar to the old Muppet Show format.

I'm there. Loved Muppets Tonight as well. I'll follow the Muppets wherever they go.

Tivo boxes have an extended preview on them. It looks hilarious. The humor is a bit quicker than traditional Muppet offerings and has a beat kind of like modern comedies like Arrested Development or Modern Family.

This might be it...

It looks like Modern Family but with Muppets. Which I think would be entertaining.

i love this promo where the puppeteer (muppeteer?) makes kermit look like he's forcing a fake smile and then back to sad face.

Re: Muppets "reboot" coming to ABC?

I think this is going to be fun...but I also think it might die in the ratings. Kids don't seem to enjoy the Muppets as much as us older folks do, and the last movie died at the box office (And remember the Lady Gaga special? Of course you don't, because no one watched it).

Re: Muppets "reboot" coming to ABC?

Yeah, my 3 kids (now high schoolers) have always found the Muppets to be "creepy". I don't get why people my age seem to love them so much. They were fine 30 years ago, but it seems like something that shouldn't have made it past the '80s.

If the show keeps the humour shown on the extended preview, I'm in. I'm hopeful that this last beyond a season.

I just wish they killed this fake drama that they're doing with the sort of reality show shit with Kermit and Miss Piggy. blah.

I've gotten that feeling as well. Older people still enjoy the Muppets but a string of forgettable movies/specials have rendered them largely irrelevant to younger audiences. The Muppets haven't felt really popular since some time in the 1980s.

Re: Muppets "reboot" coming to ABC?

The Muppets movie and Most Wanted were fantastic, but it is quite an uphill climb after two decades of mediocrity. Also the Lady GaGa special was a huge misstep and a disaster. Shoulda just done an Elton John special with Kermit and the gang.

Agreed but got to keep them in the spot light (or get press) somehow.

Previews look great. I would have been in no matter what, but now I'm actually optimistic.
