The wresing promo piece was awesome. I lost it when Koko said he catfished the other guy and he'd been spanking it to the picture of the daughter he didn't know he had. The Rock is a great host, very charismatic.

The opening skit was kinda "blah" for me. The rest of the show was pretty good. The detective skit was a little mixed for me.
Don't know who George Ezra is and not my type of music.

One of the best eps in the past several years. Rock always brings it. Please stop with those Kyle Mooney videos. They are just awful.

Screw several years: One of the best eps ever, in all of time and SNL space - now and to infinity.
Usually, SNL is either amazing or sucks in one of two ways: They are original, either witty or too far "out there"; or else they are edgy, either cutting edge/"hard" humor or over the top offensive.
This episode, in a rarity, combined the best of both worlds: Original, zany stuff, but really pushing the line. See back-to-back skits of Bambi² and the Wrestlemania promo. Seriously, that set-up of "The photo my Catfish sent, that you've been spanking it to? Your unknown daughter!" Holy crap, one of the greatest jokes ever.
I dunno who was responsible for last night's episode, whether the SNL core writing staff just meshed perfectly, or if Johnson brought in just the right amount of input/creativity combined with his character/personality that they were forced to write skits for and around... but whatever, they need to go back to that well. Again. And. Again.
Now then, next week...? Michael Keaton and... Carlie Rae Jepsen?! What an odd dichotomy there... and something I'm extremely on the fence regarding. Really, with her latest music video, and just for hosting SNL in general, I'm shocked/surprised they didn't go for Tom Hanks to have hosted.

Just an added note without switching gears dramatically in tacking this on my previous reply:
Tom Hanks. He hasn't hosted in almost a decade!!! Doesn't seem anywhere near that long, at least to me. Even more shocking still? He's basically only hosted that once in the last *TWENTY* years!!!!!one!!
Courtesy of: http://snl.wikia.com/wiki/Tom_Hanks
Where we find his last gig on: 05-06-2006
Prior to that, it was: 9-28-96. Then, there were six other hosting gigs that took place over a span of slightly over six years, marking eight full-host appearances in total. He's *more* than overdue. Hell, his particular showmanship chops are almost uniquely suited to SNL - performer, actor, comedian, improv, singing, behind the scenes, etc, on and on. Downright criminal not to have exploited such skills over so very long a time.
On said note, I really want/need to see John Goodman at least once more. He's one of the seminal SNL hosts, and yet disappeared for almost the last fifteen (15!!!) long years. One gig, 12-14-13, and other than that we're looking at just under two months after 9/11, 11-03-01. For Goodman especially, well... let's just face facts: His considerable "frame" multiplied by his rapidly advancing age make for an uncertain future, to put it kindly. I guarantee, you asked anyone during his Roseanne years whether or not he'd still he kicking it in the far-future world of 2015...? While he'll "only" be 63, even so...
Interestingly, Keaton hasn't hosted in the longest time out of the three: His last hosting appearance came in support of Batman Returns, meaning 11-14-1992. Having only hosted twice, the first over a year before I was even born (!!!!!!) on 10-30-1982, I've really got no clue what we're in store for. If I watched the 92 performance aged nine (a possibility), I sure as all get out don't remember it.
Having looked up other frequent hosts just now to see if there were any names I'd left out, (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...ve-Timers_Club), Danny Devito (another Batmun Returns alum, a film that also featured Christopher Walken, no less!) 6 hostings, first 1982, last in 1999. Bill Murray oughta go without saying, but probably next to impossible even with his recent 40th appearance/cameo.
Only other interesting one of note...? I see the one name I don't immediately recognize: Buck Henry. 10 appearances. First in 76, fifth in 77, most recent in 1980. I figure it's some old timer long since departed from this Earth, but nope! Still kicking it, apparently - now aged 84, from his Wikipedia article:

Henry also hosted the only live remote attempted by SNL, broadcast live from Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Henry's frequent host record would be broken when Steve Martin hosted the 14th season finale in 1989.[4] During the October 30, 1976 episode, Buck Henry was injured in the forehead by John Belushi's katana in the samurai sketch. Henry's head began to bleed and he was forced to wear a large bandage on his forehead for the rest of the show. As a gag, the members of the SNL cast each wore a bandage on their foreheads as well.

You know what's really funny? I don't think that's the first time The Rock has talked about herpes in a wrestling promo.

Yeah, this episode was great. I skipped the musical performances, but I enjoyed pretty much all of the skits except the Jinx one. That one fell pretty flat for me. Probably one of the advantages of having a host who has hosted before relatively recently is that the writers have a better sense of their strengths and style.

Johnson's time in wrestling trained him to really run with something in terms of sketch performance, and it really showed with this ep. He has the kind of charisma to inject an otherwise mediocre ep. with energy.

The Pep Boys bit made me wonder if it was inspired by the Onion's article from Friday the 27th: http://www.theonion.com/articles/stu...ld-be-c,38320/ Although, I'm leaning towards it being a coincidence because I would assume that the non-live sketches are done a few days in advance.

Finally got around to watch this, and as usual The Rock is just fucking awesome. The last skit was so so, but everything else was great.
