Greetings -

I don't get to theaters much these days, seeing only a cinematic release or two each year.

I am looking for recommendations for films released in the last year or two that "flew under the radar", but were truly outstanding. I'm looking more for Independent films, or films with an indy feel. I don't go for Galaxy Guardians-type fare. Also, if you have any links to critics' lists or blogs with 'best of' lists that you trust, that would be helpful.

In any event, I would recommend LIKE FATHER LIKE SON, a Japanese family drama by Koreeda, and RAILWAY MAN starring Colin Firth as a former POW on the River Kwai who meets his Japanese tormentor 30-odd years later.
