For 7.1 it doesn't even say the HD MA. I thought it might be my new Sony BD player. I tried my PS4 in PCM and the receiver said Linear PCM 3/4.1 so it read the 7.1. And all 7 speakers are set up on the menu. When I switched the PS4 to DTS it read the DTS 3/2.1 again even though it should be 7.1. I watched Maze Runner which was 7.1, it read it as DTS 3/2.1, but I could hear sound from all speakers. Why isn't it reading DTS HD MA 3/4.1?

Just tried my XONE also and same thing. I pick uncompressed 7.1 and the receiver reads it as such, but switching to DTS or DD reads as 5.1. I know at least the DTS on both systems is supposed to be 7.1. Then I threw in a Star Wars movie on my BD player because they're 6.1. It read that as plain DTS 3/2.1 also. Then I tried a game on my PC and that read as linear PCM 7.1 as well. Why is that the only format it's shoeing as 7.1? I tried switching my BD player to PCM, byt then it reads as stereo PCM. WTF.

Some players do weird things if you tell them to send the audio out as bitstream but you also have the secondary audio turned on. If you do this on my Oppo, it sends everything out as a regular DTS signal. Turn secondary audio off and it sends the audio however it was encoded originally. I have mine set to "Auto", which not all players have, but it sends the audio out as PCM if there's secondary audio disc and usually as bitstream if there isn't; not all players have full 7.1 decoding however so you have to watch out for that. They did make this a bit needlessly complicated mainly due to shortcomings in the players' audio decoding.

Star Wars is DTS-ES, isn't it? That usually comes through weird, often showing as 5.1, so not a good example. Actually, wherever I look at the BDs, it says it's only 5.1.

I don't have any of those source machines, so I can't help much. There could be settings limiting to legacy DD/DTS in either the source or the receiver. I know my preamp would allow me to pick regular DTS if I wanted. (why would I)

You are using HDMI, right?
