I'll eventually have to switch to drawers with the number of discs I have- what's your criteria for which ones you put in plastic?

I have 4 of these. These 3 for my blu's and 1 for my dwindling DVD's, save for the collector's stuff or ones I just want to keep. Sold off just about everything else.

They're Cherry. The black one I made myself, I just copied the 2 Cherry ones I bought. The company discontinued them, but I liked the dimensions, and they hold close to 500 per case.

Looks like Harry Potter but I don't recognize that particular set. Does that "Lost" set come with a VHS tape?

Yeah, that's the big ass HP Wizard's Collection. Got it when Amazon had it for $154.99. Don't worry Snake, it's safe on that shelf, but with the shadows, it does look like it'a about to fall off. And the Lost set is the blu one with the pyramid inside and all the junk.

Re: Show us your stuff! (aka how do you store your blu-rays?)

before blu-ray, i stored all my DVDs in organizer books. stored the cover art in binders and shelved them away. System worked great. have 2000 DVDs in 8 binders - couldn't have been happier.

With BD - now I get 2 or even 3 discs per movie. BD, DVD, special feature disc. And if I get a 3d movie? Definitely at least 3 discs (2d dvd, 2d bd, 3d bd). I hate combos with a passion. this throws a real monkey wrench into my system. I would have to devote almost an entire page per movie! insane.

I have actually thought about selling the DVD versions of all the BD combo discs - just to streamline the # of discs so I can continue to use a caseless system. But I still have too many 3 disc sets now so that just reduces things to 2 discs per movie - which is still 1 disc too many.

I have started to put my Blu-rays on shelfs, but am quickly running out of room. Not sure what my next stop is.. but all these multi-disc BD versions are making me think about VOD - which I REALLY don't want to do (for various reasons).

I hate combos... seriously. People who don't have nor want a Blu-ray player wouldn't buy a combo, and if you have blu-ray players (at least me) why would you could care about the DVD?

Grrr.

I like combos for kids movies. I don't have a blu player in my kids room or in my car, but I do have DVD players in both places, and it's nice for them to be able to watch their movies in their room or on long drives.

I don't really care either way if other films are combos or not, but the DVD in those packs is probably never getting used, unless I happen to loan it to someone who doesn't have a blu player.

Thanks. They are custom shelves that I built last year that my wife designed. Previously, I had been using the ever-popular Sauder units, but ran out of space and they had stopped production of the color that I used.

Looking at how expensive shelves were, we decided to just buy 8' pine planks from our local home improvement store and stain them black and put them up with brackets. Ended up costing just a few hundred bucks to do the entire room.

Re: Show us your stuff! (aka how do you store your blu-rays?)

I've got a couple of shelves. They're messy, mostly unorganized, and there's picture frames and other crap on the shelf in front of many of them, as my wife likes to frame everything and stick it anywhere there's room. Not comfortable sharing any pics of that, and I'm not gonna clean it up just show I can show you, .

Fuck it. I'm no Alan Smithee, but I still have some cleaning up to do.
Spoilered because I'm adding this from my phone and have no idea how big the pic is going to be on here.

Blu-ray discs that are specifically mine (discs that my wife and I both watch are stored separately). Also have a couple of Oskar 320 units for DVDs and CDs and an IKEA Expedit for LP storage.

Re: Show us your stuff! (aka how do you store your blu-rays?)

Haha! I understand, but it is 'sort' of organized. The whole bottom row are what I've purchased, but not yet watched, so they're in no particular order. The top two rows are (mostly) TV series, not really in order, except sci-fi together. Third shelf down are a couple of stragglers (Universal 100th Anniversary set was too big for other shelves), then Criterion (except America Lost and Found, at the far right), followed by the rest of my stuff in alphabetical order, followed by music and musicals at the end.

Aw crap... typing all the above, I'm realizing that it is really pretty haphazard.

Come to think of it, looking around this man-cave, it is somewhat Alansmitheean. Time to get a handle on that. Well, starting tomorrow, as it's too late right now...
