Game Of The Year 2014
So Gamespot just announced there Game Of The Year
Shadow Of Mordor
I've been playing this since yesterday and the Nemesis system is something I've never seen implemented. Not sure yet if it's GOTY material though.

I've probably only played a few new games this year but Mordor wins, hands down.
Also, where's Mario Kart & Infamous? I had a blast with Infamous and while the series continues to regress, MK still has its fans.

Re: Game Of The Year 2014
Of the games on the list, i've only played Titanfall, Call of Duty, and Destiny. I don't feel strongly enough about any of them to make them my Game of the Year. I'm honestly not sure what I would put as my GOTY, there doesn't seem to be as many standouts as there were last year when there was GTA5, Last of Us, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, Link Between Worlds. I think I spent most of my gaming year playing Wolf Among Us, Walking Dead Season 2, and Diablo 3.
I really need/want to play Dragon Age and to a lesser extent, Mordor as those seem to be the leading candidates.
I was actually thinking about starting a GOTY thread the last few days, but wasn't sure what titles to put in the poll. I think i'd drop the episodic games and put in Mario Kart 8 or Bayonetta 2, or possibly Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls/Ultimate Evil Edition. Or maybe even South Park.

I guess a toss up between Divinity: Original Sin and Wasteland 2. Both games are flawed, but they're probably the best I've played this year.

Sunset Overdrive should have also been a finalist. That's a fun game.
My pick : DriveClub. j/k
I went with Far Cry 4 since it's probably the most fun I've had with a game this year, but it's a soft choice as GotY. It does nothing remarkable or that original and the story sucks. I was tempted to pick Forza Horizon 2 which I also really liked. Thought Shadow of Mordor was quite good but too repetitive in mission structure for GotY.

Of the games that I’ve played, I’d go with Far Cry 4, but I still need to crack open Dragon Age, Super Smash Brothers, Call of Duty AW, The Evil Within, Alien Isolation and Captain Toad.
I’m surprised Sunset Overdrive and South Park: Stick of Truth aren’t options, as those would be my 2 & 3 behind Far Cry.
Of what’s on the list, Shadow of Mordor, Wolfenstein and Titanfall were all great. Watch Dogs was fun, but got old. Destiny & Assassins Creed Unity were huge disappointments.

Re: Game Of The Year 2014
I had a great time with Infamous Second Son...the lighting with the neon really showed what the PS4 could do. And I love Far Cry 4 but while it's a blast the thorn in the side with it is the co-op rewards or lack of. It should encourage players to play together and not do things twice. Heard good stuff from Dragon's Age but not played. If anything I'm glad Shadow of Mordor is getting the recognition and praise. it came as an underdog against a decent lineup and surprised a lot of people. Good to see something beside COD, BF and GTA....
On a side note I did enjoy Wolfenstein as I think it was better than critics gave it. And Diablo III Reaper of Souls for the PS4 was a leap above the 360 and Blizzard helped with players keeping all their work, time and effort in place which was worthy of notice.

My favorite new game of the year was South Park (can't believe I'm saying that but the game deserves it). The best game release of this year is Suikoden II on PSN. Nothing else comes close.

Re: Game Of The Year 2014
Sounds like I really need to check out Shadow of Mordor and Far Cry 4. I never really had any interest in it.
For me, GOTY is probably Forza Horizon 2, although I really haven't played a ton of the titles on the list.

I also enjoyed and completed AC: Unity, but the issues with the mobile app integration keeps it from GOTY for me.

Re: Game Of The Year 2014
Weak year overall, and I haven't bought much. I've spent the most time with Warframe (technically out of beta this year) and Destiny (which I have a love-hate relationship with...but seriously, fuck that game).
I'd echo that Infamous deserves a mention, but it's not a traditional "GOTY" by any stretch. It remains the best looking game I've ever seen on any platform, and it's actually a lot of fun.
I think it's probably about time we started giving more games outside of the big AAA releases a fair look, because for my money, smaller games have been killing it. I look at something like Transistor, Shovel Knight, Hearthstone or Velocity and wonder why they can't get some consideration.
I think the best traditional AAA games released this year were re-releases from 2013 (Last of Us, GTA5, TR) and most everything else has been underwhelming.
Voted other.

Hands down South Park. This was such an unmemorable year for games. Could've had Batman and a bunch of other titles that were delayed.

Re: Game Of The Year 2014
Just in general I thought the fall had al ot of good but not many great games. I had issues with the initial version of AC: Unity, AC: Rogue (which was basically a Black Flag clone), Master Chief Collection (which is still broken), The Crew (which still has network issues), Far Cry 4 (which initially had network issues), The Evil Within, Etc. I just personally feel like I've played alot of good games this fall but nothing that I'd come back to or feel the need to keep in my collection. Imho, it was a very weak year for gaming.

Re: Game Of The Year 2014
Really bad gaming year, nothing worthy of a GOTY tag really.
I guess South Park and Sunset Overdrive are the two best, most refreshing options. GTA V can't count again.
