Xbox one audio question

I have a new sound bar that has 3 hdmi hookups and an optical hook up. Is there any benefit going optical for Xbox into sound bar and tv to hdmi or just keep Xbox hdmi to tv and tv optical to sound bar?

EDIT. This is probably a mute point as I then can't hook the tv up as optical seems to be my only option on the tv 2013 3D tv

Thanks

You need to un-mute if you want it to have sound.

Re: Xbox one audio question

If you want master audio skip the optical. Optical is inferior to hdmi.

Nope. It was even funnier.

Of course, it wasn't a typo either. Tons of people don't know that "moot" is a word. See it all the time.

True, "typo" was the wrong word. I only used it because davidh777 used it, I swear.

But yes. MOOT point. Ain't they all?

Sometimes you give someone the benefit of the doubt by calling it a typo.

Especially if they have anger issues.

Sound bars suck. Get yourself a nice receiver and some speakers. It's a better investment and a better experience.

Regardless, HDMI supports more audio formats than optical. They're both digital, but not every device has HDMI, which is why Optical is supported in the first place.

Answer: Use HDMI unless your only option is Optical. In which case TV to Optical would be a better bet since they generally support fewer formats to begin with.

Re: Xbox one audio question

If your TV will do ARC, then HDMI should allow you to control the volume from the TV. I had to go into the settings of my TV to enable it. It might be hidden in an obscure spot and they might call it something other than ARC.
