I had my Toshiba 32" but then returned it figuring it seems too big for my room (I practically live in a dorm room), and I paid about $750 for it - so I am thinking about getting this smaller HDTV. The reason I think about it, is it has this progressive-scan line double that's supposed to also work on an analog (normal cable) connection.

Has anyone experienced this, and what type of quality I can expect? I saw this TV at best buy and to me it looked just like HDTV, super clarity/sharpness compared to normal analog TV's...but I don't know if they were piping it some HD signals or ANALOG signals (I'd have to ask).

Thanks for any comments,
ELmO

By the way here is a link to Best Buy's site, showing it's specifications: http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11018311&m=1&cat=24&scat=27

I was curious about this TV when I saw the BB ad, but haven't seen it in person yet. The best I can tell is that it is similar to a Sony Wega, maybe a bit cheaper since it's a Samsung (although I have had very good luck with Samsung stuff). Note that it's not HDTV, just digital ready. HDTV will cost you a lot more.

What is the difference between digital ready and HDTV? Thanks - and I have seen it in person at Best Buy..they have it almost on it's own "pedestal". They were showing an evander holyfield lennox lewis (I think those were the 2) boxing match, and comparing the \/\/ega to the Samsung was no comparison - the Samsung was killing it. At first me and my friend were wondering, why is this Samsung SO much clearer than the Wega's...then we saw it said digital. Maybe if you get to take a look at it at Best Buy you cang ive me some more comments - thanks. If it was being fed normal cable like the Wega's, and producing such a clean sharp picture I would definitely lean towards getting it.

guess what guys? I OWN THIS TV. it kicks ass. the only problem with it is the "artifacting" that is caused by the line doubler when watching really fast moving and poorly compressed video. I actually attached a progressive scan dvd player to it at best buy (cuz i work there) AND IT LOOKED FRICKEN AMAZING! I used gladiator as the test material, and there was NO comparrison between prog-scan and interlaced, prog-scan kicked its butt. i think this tv is the BEST 27" tv for dvd, its really great for video games, looks ok for cable, and it will look good in the future because it accepts 480p so hd tv will look VERY DECENT on it. It also has the best sound system i have ever seen on a TV itself. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS just feel free to ask. I LOVE THIS TV.

Major downside, no 1080i on this baby.... only 480P....

of course theres no 1080i. what do you expect from a $1000 tube tv? no one said its hi-def, its only digital. it accepts 480p in its native state.

vwbeetlvr, looks just OK for cable? At YOUR best buy what do they have hooked up to this tube? I have to ask what they hooked up to it, cuz it looked VERY clear/sharp to me..does it improve the Cable (analog) signal? basically I'm asking how good is the progressive scan line doubling for normal cable?

thanks,
ELmO

to be honest, i have a crappy cable line in my basement now so i really shouldnt be a judge. at our best buy we have a loop playing off of a TIVO that was recored from a satellite dish. it looks better than the sony wega next to it, but the line doubler artifacts make it look odd up close, far away it looks great. im sure it would look EVEN BETTER on a true satellite feed.

My cable line is supposed to be a new type of fiber optic cable with improved clarity....so the Wega and Samsung are both being fed data that was from a satellite dish? The Samsung does blow the Wega away, I didn't notice any artifcats but I only watched the portion with evander holyfield fight..I'm jus twondering if I plug it in at home with my normal cable will the progressive-scan line double improve the picture for me? Hmm...I might have to go talk to the best buy folk about it.

yes, the line doubler improves ALL sources except a TRUE 480p signal, which then i believe the line doubler is disabled.
