I noticed that some DirecTV movies are in DD. If my DSS reciever only has rca outputs to my digital receiver(w/ DD/DTS) will i still get the DD5.1?

So i have to have digital coax from the DSS receiver to the dolby digital reciever in order to get the DD5.1?

You have to have some kind of digital connection (optical or coax, typically optical, I think) from the DSS receiver to get the DD5.1.
Of course, it's possible that they've made a DSS receiver with a built-in decoder that would output 5.1 analog channels (for use with a DD-ready receiver), but I'm just mentioning it to cover all the bases.

This is not entirely true. There are some earlier units (like the Sony AD2) that featured an optical digital output, but will still not pass DD 5.1. The receiver has to be able to recognize DD 5.1 and pass it to the output. These are generally the units of the current or one generation back.

I was going to reply saying that I hadn't necessarily said that having a digital output would guarantee that he'd get DD, but I went back and read my post, and I probably wasn't that clear.
What really matters is that you've pointed out a helpful caveat for rubberman.
Would it be safe to say that any DSS receiver that features a DD output will have the Dolby Digital logo on the front? My guess would be yes.

The two rca's I have are both optical out. I have not seen a coaxial digital out. Just like the PS2. http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/frown.gif

Yes. Any compatible unit, does have the logo on the face.
