FOX changed their minds and picked up Gotham for a full 22 episode season.

They are in terrible shape ratings-wise and this is their best performing show right now. I guess they had to do it.

I'm not sure if this show is built to sustain 22-episode seasons. It will be interesting to see what other villains from the rogues gallery they end up introducing because of this.

So, if the original storyline was supposed to be 16 shows, I guess we get six more "filler" episodes.

I can't tell if I'm in the minority or not, but I think it can sustain 22 episodes just fine. They've already introduced multiple, interesting serialized threads that can continue to develop slowly if they so-choose (montoya/barbara intrigue, penguin's emergence, falcone/fish/maroni tensions, selina's knowledge of the Wayne murderer, etc).

This series is about how the city of Gotham ended up breeding Batman, key members of his rogue's gallery, and an otherwise-by-the-book commissioner who willfully supports and collaborates with a vigilante. I think there's plenty to explore there over multiple 22-episode seasons, if they handle it right.

If you think about it, they're ALL filler episodes until we get Batman.

It could just be 420 minutes of the actors doing the Batusi.

Maybe they'll do a mini 6 episode arc. Or a set up for a bigger story in the second season.

Maybe we can get some more episodes of Alfred shaking Bruce.

Re: Gotham (S1E04) -- "Arkham" -- 10/13/14

I'm really liking this show, but I know very little of the cannon of Batman. I can figure out Penguin, Catwoman, etc, but know nothing about Fish for example. On the first thread, I think that someone made reference to Gordon's partner, played by Donal Logue? What's his story in the comics? I know that different versions may have results, but I didn't realize that as much of this back history has been fleshed out as apparently it has been.

I thought it was really boring. I could find much to care about. Fish creating a weapon was kind of cool. Everything else fell flat for me.

I miss AH too. I wish FOX would have renewed it over Sleepy Hollow. Gotham and Almost Human on Monday nights would have been awesome.

I'm enjoying Gotham. Depending how long it lasts it feels like something will be hovering over the show for what people want it to be.

Such crazy thoughts! Sleepy Hallow would have ended on a cliffhanger.

Almost Human was my favorite show from last season but given the short season order for Sleepy Hollow I don't see what that should have gotten the axe instead. The atmosphere certainly feels more like Gotham than Almost Human would have (and Sleepy Hollow is a great show).

I'm enjoying the show just enough to keep watching it. I continue to be shocked at how much I'm enjoying Jada P. Smith in this. Kinda funny to hear Ben McKenzie break into his own version of Batman while he's talking to Cobblepot in the ally.

Re: Gotham (S1E04) -- "Arkham" -- 10/13/14

The problem I think is that Bruce is too young. He will never be Batman unless they jump ahead in future seasons but I suspect because of the movies they are never allowed to show him as Batman. I actually really like it so far, but they could call it Penguin and not be too far off the mark so far. Seems there has to be some momentum at some point.

I think the portrayal of bruce in this episode was the most grounded so far on the show. He actually didn't feel shoe horned into this.

Fish Mooney isn't in the comics, she's an original character for the series.

Bullock, Gordon's partner, has a very convoluted background in the comics. Depending on the era, or the story, he's been both good and bad, honorable and corrupt. So there's no telling at this point which way they'll go in the series, though it looks like they're heading in the heroic direction.

On a serious note, isn't "Have you ever been with another girl?" one of the first questions you ask your girlfriend after it becomes official?
