Yusuf / Cat Stevens new album "Tell 'Em I'm Gone" 10/27/14

There are a few Cat Stevens threads here, but they're old and/or they degenerated into non-musical topics so I'm starting a new one. Mods can merge if desired.

Lately I've been having a Cat Stevens resurgence. My parents used to listen to his albums all the time, then of course the name change and Salman Rushdie, etc. But this is really good '70s singer-songwriter stuff. I picked up the Gold double album for my collection, but I think I'm going to have to get some of the albums because that's how I'm used to listening, and there's a lot of stuff not on hits collections. Amazon has Mona Bone Jakon for $5 MP3 so I got that. Oddly, they don't carry Catch Bull at Four even though iTunes does. Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat are my favorites that I'll probably add as well.

Coincidentally (I think), Yusuf/Cat is releasing a new album this month, his first in five years. From the single, it still sounds like the same guy, older and with less range, but I'm definitely interested.

Lastly, I'll share this horrible album cover from the UK:

I didn't think much of his first Yusuf "Cat comeback" album, so I haven't been following him since.

I had mixed feeling of his first return album but overall it was good.
I've been a fan of his every since I was little. I first became aware of him by watching Harold & Maude when I was young. Parents had his albums and I always enjoyed listening to his music.
I was really happy to see him inducted into the RRHF and he sounded great. I dont think the mans voice has changed one bit.

The single above sounds ok. A little slow in terms of what I think he should have played it compared to his older stuff. But I cant wait to hear new music from him.

Interesting take on this little song. I can almost hear 'old Cat' in this rendition.

His voice is remarkable. It hasn't perceptibly aged in 40 years.

^Thanks for posting. I have to give both of those a "meh". His songwriting skills must've died in 1978 after Back to Earth, which was one of his best albums.

Amazon is streaming the album free through today (not sure if it's Prime or not). Remind me to give it a listen.

Just checking . . . you do know that those are both old songs written by other people, right?

And I give a "meh" to both renditions.
