SERIES PREMIERE
"black-ish," A BOLD NEW COMEDY THAT TAKES A MULTI-GENERATIONAL LOOK AT CONTEMPORARY FAMILY ISSUES, PREMIERES SEPTEMBER 24 ON ABC
Series Features Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross and Special Guest Star Laurence Fishburne
"Pilot" - "black-ish," a bold new comedy that takes a multi-generational look at contemporary family issues, premieres WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 (9:31-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. The series features Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross and special guest star Laurence Fishburne. Anderson and Fishburne also serve as executive producers.
Like any parents, Andre "Dre" (Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) Johnson want to give their children the best. But their offspring's childhood is turning out to be much different than theirs. They now realize at least two things: There is a price to pay for giving their children more than what they ever had, and these loving parents are totally unprepared for the fallout. "Pops" (Laurence Fishburne), Dre's dad, takes every opportunity to offer his old school opinion on family issues.
In "Pilot," Dre, an advertising exec, is happily anticipating a promotion at work, which would make him the firm's first African American senior vice president. Rainbow, an anesthesiologist, is looking forward to Dre's raise. Meanwhile, Andre Jr. makes an announcement -- he's converting to Judaism so he can have a Bar Mitzvah, like all his friends.
"black-ish" stars Anthony Anderson as Andre "Dre" Johnson, Tracee Ellis Ross as Rainbow Johnson, Yara Shahidi as Zoey Johnson, Marcus Scribner as Andre Johnson, Jr., Miles Brown as Jack Johnson, Marsai Martin as Diane Johnson and special guest star, Laurence Fishburne.
Guest starring are Peter Makenzie as Mr. Stevens and Jeff Meacham as Josh.
"Pilot" was written by Kenya Barris and directed by James Griffiths. "black-ish" was created by Kenya Barris and is executive-produced by Barris, Larry Wilmore, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland and E. Brian Dobbins. The series is produced by ABC Studios.

ABC seems to really be pimping this show. I see billboards everywhere and they're pairing it with Modern Family. So I imagine they have high hopes for it.
I'll give it a shot since I like Anthony Anderson as well.

So is this a family show or a show about family? Modern Family often falls in the latter.

This was surprisingly good. It's like if the father and son from "Boyz in the Hood" made it out of the hood and became successful. They even got Laurence Fishbourne to reprise his role.

I thought this was great. I like Anthony Anderson and Fishburne, so it worked for me.
Is he going to be a series regular or was he just in this first episode?

He says in this article that he will do both, but is cutting Hannibal to part time.

I enjoyed this a lot. In fact, I thought it was much better than the premiere of Modern Family, which is starting to feel tired.

I didn't find it all that funny but I'll give it another shot. I wonder how urban people found it. I never want to hear the phrase 'keep it real' again.

Urban people lol. I thought it was ok, I hate sitcoms but this one caught my interest so I will keep watching it until becomes stale and unfunny like most sitcoms eventually do.

Not bad. I enjoyed the moments with Pops and Andre more than him hanging out with his actual family.
I wonder how many episodes Laurence Fishburne committed to if this gets picked up.
The Keep it Real stuff got kinda annoying after it was already mentioned a few times.

Same here. The punchlines were all spoiled by the previews. I'll give it another shot anyway. I'm sure it will get good ratings and a full season because of it's strong lead-in.

LOL! I'm "Urban" cough cough...and found it pretty funny and absolutely dead on in some cases from my own experiences.
There is a white woman at my job that always says "HEY GIRL" when she sees me. One of my white friends mothers always asks me questions like "Why do Black people..." Finally I had to finally tell her I was not the Mayor of Black people or a Magical Black person that can answer all her questions....

Saw the pilot a week or two ago on XBOX. It was ok. I see what they're trying to do showing how they struggle existing in both worlds. I'm not sure if it will last though.

I'm not sure Anthony Anderson is the right guy for the lead role.
