OK, I'm trying to set something up in my basement with 5.1 sound for my DVD player. I'm able to connect and get sound from the five main speakers, but am unable to hook up the subwoofer properly. Right now I have my subwoofer hooked up to the back of the receiver via two RCA plugs. But if I want to listen to 5.1 sound, would I just plug the subwoofer into the 5.1 jacks instead?

I would imagine that I have to hook the subwoofer out on the DVD player to the subwoofer in on my receiver. So how do you all go about doing this?

Does your receiver have a plug on the back that says sub out? You should go between that and the sub's line in jack. If your sub has 2 line in jacks, you can get a Y-adapter to go between the single output and dual inputs, or you can just connect it to either of the inputs.

It sounds like you were trying to go from the sub out to the receiver in, which is the opposite of what you want.
