The Machinist - Looking for the other way around, to get motivated for indoor runs on the treadmill and the indoor bike trainer
Captain America - no real transformation as in the other two. Poof, he's buff.

GatorDeb,
There are a million kung fu movies that do this kind of thing expertly, i.e. depict a novice undergoing rigorous kung fu training and coming out as an expert martial artist. Start with THE 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN (aka MASTER KILLER in its English-dubbed form). SHAOLIN MARTIAL ARTS, INVINCIBLE SHAOLIN and SHAOLIN TEMPLE (1976) are three others that have incredible training scenes. Some of Jackie Chan's early films might work in this regard: SNAKE IN THE EAGLE'S SHADOW and DRUNKEN MASTER, both 1978, and YOUNG MASTER (1980). Some others: BORN INVINCIBLE, 7 GRANDMASTERS, and NINJA CHECKMATE (aka THE MYSTERY OF CHESS BOXING).
Back when these films ran on local TV regularly and we had VCRs, a martial artist friend of mine used to tape the training scenes from each of these films.

Awesome, thanks, keep them coming! Going to YouTube each movie and they probably have just the training scenes and I can make a Playlist, I have that for all Rocky's
Edit: Found a bunch Googling those movie names and training scene in Youtube!

I LOVED that movie, and also saw that other one they did last year or the year before about the same subject. Exactly the type of movie I'm looking for
Also already saw Pre and Chariots of Fire, great running movies.
It's not vague, it's open-ended
Bloodsport sounds interesting, thanks!

It's the opposite of most films too, about a guy who goes from great physical shape to self-destructive poor health, rather the other way around like most films do with the hero becoming better. I'd assume there are some samurai films with the whole training montage bit too?

Hunger Games and Divergent have training, but not really transformation. Can't recall if there are training montages or anything like that.
