Godfather is not perfect because it is an adaptation

This just came to me like an anvil to the mind, but this touted popculture monument for years, a TOWERING majestic HALLMARK of cinema.... is an adaptation. Sorry but to be pure cinema one must be an original screenplay cause some other dude wrote the book first then it was made into a award winning masterpiece. Honestly ... Manos: The Hands of Fate has more credence as pure cinema as it was at least it was written first for the screen. Citizen Kane, [b]Tax

Re: Godfather is not perfect because it is an adaptation

Wow. Nothing can be done about it but the novel came out three years previously, created by a different dude. Hey it is a good movie, unquestionably, but this is something that is falters in. Alright NEVERMIND it's a fucken thought, no need to NAME CALL ASSHOLE.

I don't support name calling but in his defense it was an absolutely ridiculous thought you had.

Re: Godfather is not perfect because it is an adaptation

Wait. That makes no sense. Then.... Most movies aren't great cuz they circle the basic plot lines of stories of the past.

Mods. Let us close the thread. This duff man has gone bonkers, yeah?

Jaws, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Schindler's List are all adaptations too...I might as well just quit movies, heh Duff?

So like how does this effect every film that follows the Hero's Journey?

Duff, what kind of paper dick have you been smoking?

duff_beer is lashing out because because he feels that what other posters pointed out in the following thread should not have been pointed out:

why did Cameron agree to do Aliens after T1?

Ok whatever i do enjoy Casablanca and and heck oh for Vertigo, so this lowly mass of posters together like a mighty MegaZord, have quelled my inner beast and acknowledge that The Godfather, for whatever it's worth, definitely does not suffer at all for being an adaptation.

Comments rescinded!

I guess this eliminates the perfection of Stanley Kubrick's films (all adaptations).

This thread was obviously a response to people pointing out that James Cameron was sued for plagiarism over The Terminator, and that he had to insert an acknowledgement to Harlan Ellison.

Re: Godfather is not perfect because it is an adaptation

I kind of agree with the OP. The Dark Knight also can't be the greatest film of all time because Batman and the other characters were created several decades before. The film can still cure cancer from watching it, however.

Seriously, what is your obsession with Nolan and his Batman movies?

Even hardcore Batman fanboys don't obsess about them as much as you do. It unhealthy, man. Get over it.

Wait, what are stvn1974's thoughts on the Dark Knight and Nolan films in general?
