Are you a film snob?
meaning, don't you wish everyone you knew was as knowledgeable of movies and entertainment as you are?
sometimes, i don't like to talk about it because anyone else would not understand or be interested in the stuff that you enjoy the most. sometimes i wish in real life i could talk about it more and not be ashamed as i kinda am about my collection of movies...
now, i don't know exactly what a film snob is or if i am one. i don't think so, but who the hell knows.
so what does make someone a film snob?

I don't think I am. About the only movies I turn my nose up to are Adam Sandler comedies and those Seltzer and Friedberg "spoof" movies.
All other film tastes, I've always been a live and let live kind of guy.

My friends think I'm way too broad in taste to be a snob. I kind of think I am but again... My tastes are very broad. Hell. At one end I own Predator and at the other end I own Tess, Great BD btw.
Not sure how. He just grounded it a more than usual but it is still ridiculous. Cuz it's the goddamn Batman, yo.

Re: Are you a film snob?
I've had this conversation with some 'normal' friends...and I realized that I (and probably most of you guys here as well) just don't watch a movie the way other people do.
In other words, I'm looking at things like acting, directing, pacing, editing, cinematography, story flow, etc. when watching a film. I'm also using my knowledge of cinema to gauge how original the movie is, or if it's simply ripping off earlier, better flicks.
So I've realized I no longer watch (nor am I even capable of watching) a movie anymore like most 'average' moviegoers do. This probably explains why I (and many of you) scratch our heads when an obvious piece of dreck goes and makes $100 million-plus at the box office.

Re: Are you a film snob?
My mind immediately only goes into just the entertainment scale. At times when there is something really unique I go all technical with it. Children of Men comes to mind. Damn thing surprised me a lot. Guardians of the Galaxy made go that way as well. With how bold and unafraid of its material but also still be a spectacle. Gunn did good. Wildly entertaining.

I like too much crap to be considered a "snob", but I do tend to get serious for some reason when it comes to film discussion. So maybe?

I'm not a snob, I like a lot of shitty movies. I'm probably more joe six pack then most people on these forums; at least when the forum had a lot bigger community.

I like those to a certain extent, I just feel like if I intellectualize or critique anything about them, I can occasionally get thought of as snobbish . My friends are also mortally afraid of anything with subtitles. Though given how much I know about Power Rangers, I really don't know how highbrow I can be considered .

Nope!
I like too many garbage films to be a snob.

As for me, nope, I'll pretty much see anything and most big releases in the theater. Hell, I saw the new Step Up movie last week in 3D.

I don't think I'm a snob but I had a new acquaintance tell me they were looking forward to Jack & Jill because they were a huge Sandler fan. I'm not gonna lie, I was laughing on the inside and quietly judging.

Re: Are you a film snob?
I suppose I am, but it's not an affectation. I have a fairly narrow but deep cinematic interest that doesn't include Hollywood blockbusters, musicals, westerns, and most comedies. I don't know if it's snobby as much as simply a matter of interest and disinterest. I just gravitate towards certain types of movies (foreign, drama, horror, documentary, et al), and away from others.

I am a film snob when it comes to summer blockbuster movies. I call 99% of them 'dummy' movies because they are about action and special effects, and they do nothing for me.
