Your favorite Robin Williams movie?
... I kind of feel like Williams had been sorely underrated as an actor, partially because he'd picked some godawful movies the last few years to be in - but what is your favourite of his career?

Either Insomnia or One Hour Photo.

Was just telling someone that Toys is incredibly underrated- it was marketed as a family film but people didn't expect its sheer weirdness.

I'll break it down by decade, I can't pick just one:
80's - Moscow On the Hudson, The World According to Garp, Good Morning Vietnam, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
90's - Dead Again, Shakes the Clown, The Fisher King, Hook, Toys, Good Will Hunting
2000's - Insomnia, The Final Cut, House of D, One Hour Photo, Death to Smoochy
2010's - Sad, but I don't know of any in the past few years
And the very many great TV roles and cameos he did. I thought he had a good 10-15 years left of good roles.

What's funny is that I think he's more well known for his dramatic work than his comedic work. Like many of our best comedians, he was a brilliant dramatic actor. I'd probably go with Awakenings, where he holds his own against Robert De Niro.

Insomnia might be the best movie he's been in, and he was great in Fisher King, but I went with The Birdcage because I think that's his best, most original and natural comedic performance.

"Good Will Hunting" is the only movie on the list that I liked (not that I've seen all of them). Not one of my favorite actors.

It's The Birdcage for me.
Not only is he hilarious throughout, the sadness when his son asks him to pretend to be something he's not breaks my heart.

GWH, but Aladdin as a close second. Could watch either over and over again. Rest in peace, Robin. You'll be missed.

Apparently there's no Blu-Ray of Aladdin, and Dead Poet's Society is just a bare bones release. I would have thought they would have done something for it's 25th anniversary.

Re: Your favorite Robin Williams movie?
I don't know if I have a favourite performance/film. I can tell you that the FIRST film of his I remember seeing was Good Morning Vietnam. My parents had it on VHS (likely copied from TV), and watched it over and over. The only thing I remember about it is the running joke that the car (or jeep?) was always running; he never turned it off.
RIP.

It's hard to pick just one. For comedies I'd probably say Mrs. Doubtfire. Honestly though I like his dramatic works better. Films such as Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting, Insomnia, and One Hour Photo are great. Also Jack sort of seems underrated if you ask me.

Birdcage is in my top 20 favorite films ever. It's a near perfect comedy. 2nd would be good will hunting. Drop off to third favorite would be a big one.
