Kung Fu meets The Karate Kid?
AMC doesn't have the track record that FX does with original programming, so I'll have to wait until I see a trailer before I pass judgement. It just sounds like they're desperate for shows to order something that sounds so uninteresting straight-to-series.

Since this project isn't seeing the light of day for another 1 year and a half, I'll reserve judgment until actors are cast and footage is shot. However, I am in favor of a weekly period martial arts drama on cable TV.
But yes, I agree, AMC's drama development is really in bad shape right now. Nothing outside of The Walking Dead is really getting any buzz. New shows like Turn and Halt and Catch Fire aren't really talked about in the media or on the Net. I think they need to commission some Pilots from outside studios like Sony or WB. Their own in house development at AMC studios hasn't turned out a ratings hit (not counting TWD)

Six episodes? Why bother. Or is that just potentially part of the first season?

Sounds lame...they should just do a Kung Fu reboot the way Bruce Lee envisioned it before he was kicked off the project. I would be more interested in that.

It's fitting that AMC's only show keeping them alive is The Walking Dead - because that describes them perfectly.
This show will fail hard.

Yeah it really does seem like AMC scored big with Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and The Walking Dead but have run out of steam with the rest of their original programming. I think that Better Call Saul has a chance of being a hit when it starts but only due to the fact that it's a spinoff of one of their most popular shows.

Hong Kong actor Daniel Wu has signed on as the lead. He's American born from San Francisco.

If you follow HK cinema, he's pretty well known. But, he has a few Western films on his resume.

Actually, I believe Breaking Bad was supposed to be 13 but was cut short by the writers' strike. So I don't know if there is any precedence besides TWD.

Arrow's second season had about the best fight choreography I've seen on television. It's less about budget and more about time. The crunch of shooting episodic television demands a relentless shooting pace. It takes a lot of time to plan out and stage a convincing fight, especially with multiple actors. You also need athletic leads that look realistic in action, you can't cut away on every shot.

Daniel Wu has been in a lot of films. I think his best one was Shinjuki Incident with Jackie Chan. It was more of a drama than an action film.

1st full trailer
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5KyHy4KRvIc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Premieres this November
It's only a 6 episode 1st season
I haven't really seen Daniel Wu perform martial arts in the films I've seen with him. But, he looks pretty credible in that footage.

Promos for this during seemingly every commercial break for TWD. I hope it's good. Also hope the action scenes aren't CGI fests.
I'll definitely give it a chance, but holding my expectations in check.

This is the sort of show that should be right up my alley, but honestly I was bored by the trailer alone. I'll still definitely give it a shot though.
