No love for Brooklyn Nine-Nine in the major categories (though Andre Braugher was nominated), lots of love for Orange is the New Black , Outstanding Actor looks like an Oscar list I was curious why Laverne Cox and Natasha Lyonne were marked as "Guest Stars", I guess it makes sense from an awards perspective.

Gonna assume Cox is the first african american tranny to get a nomination from the Emmys. Probably hear about that in the next few days.

Hoping Breaking Bad cleans up in its last chance for awards.

Also great to see all the nods for Fargo. What a great show that was. Really hope Billy Bob Thornton wins as he was excellent in it.

Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread

So, Emmy voters clearly know BBC America exists, as evidenced by the nominations for Luther, Idris Elba and Burton & Taylor, yet Tatiana Maslany, who has delivered two seasons of outstanding performances as multiple characters on Orphan Black, is ignored?

Not sure what to think of this repeated snub. Luther's ratings on BBC America were over 3 times less than Orphan Black S2, so if Emmy voters were aware of Luther, there's no way they couldn't be aware of Orphan Black and Maslany's performance.

Oh well, I guess she'll receive a Golden Globe nomination, just like last year.

Yeah...

Community and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia both got nominations for Stunt Coordination

Yep. It's a "Dramedy" but more so a comedy with dramatic touches, just not broad sitcom comedy.

Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread

Tatiana Maslany was better than at least 3 actresses in the Drama category - yet no nomination.

I don't get how they consider those actresses from Orange/Black and Joan Cusack from Shameless as "Guest" actresses when they're regulars on the show.

Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread

It's all about how they're credited, I thought it was ridiculous as well considering they're in every episode. I actually think Maslany is rightfully not nominated but I've never thought much of Orphan Black as a whole which may make me a little bias (it honestly reminds me of the internet pushing the greatness of Firefly), but she does work her ass off.

There's a category for Special and Visual Effects in a Supporting Role...

Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread

What will happen if Fargo comes back for a second season next year and another actor gives an incredible performance? Will it still be considered a miniseries?

I'm pulling for a Breaking Bad sweep. Disappointed that Brooklyn Nine-Nine didn't get more love.

Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread

True Detective could have applied for mini-series as well. At what point is a mini-series a series or vice versa? If you have more than 4 'episodes' shouldn't that just be considered a series?

Loving all of the Game of Thrones love, especially Diana Rigg as the Queen of Thorns!

If they do a second season of Fargo they already said it'd be different characters / plotline, which would qualify it as a mini-series a la American Horror Story. Or the final season of Treme which is apparently considered a mini-series as well.

Yes, just like American Horror Story is going into its fourth season still submits as a mini. Or Treme being on for four seasons and subbed as a mini this year.

It's shady, but these things dove in to silliness a long time ago.

Can't believe Hannibal didn't even catch a whiff of any of the technical awards.

Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread

I plan on binging through the second season of Orphan Black this weekend. Even without seeing it, I know Tatiana Maslany got robbed. If the first season is an indication, she could have been nominated for multiple awards for different characters.

I'm sure Breaking Bad will be the big winner of the night. I think the only major award BB won't win is Best Supporting Actor. Aaron Paul was great as usual but I think it'll go to Dinklage.

Yeah, something doesn't jive.

True Detective is considered a drama, but AHS is considered a miniseries. Same revolving cast / anthology concept.

Fargo I can understand as being considered a miniseries since talk of Season 2 didn't start until the show was already airing, and it was intentionally a "limited series" to begin with.

The final season of Treme doesn't belong on there, though. Is it considered a miniseries because of its short season? Does that mean The Killing Season 4 could be a miniseries then?

I'd like to know how they determine what constitutes as what.

It's the most visual show on TV. Someone must've slept on it, along with Mads Mikkelsen's performance. It'a a shame that show doesn't get more love. NBC renewing it for a third season was a miracle.

.
There was a pretty big stink brought up with True Detective qualifying for Drama instead of Mini.

Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread

Tatiana Maslany not getting an Emmy nomination means the entire thing is a joke. She's teaching a master class in character work every single episode. Ridiculous.

It was the studio's decision I believe, they could have had TD submitted for Mini.

It's one of the reasons OITNB S2 came out in June.

Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread

They do make exceptions though for shows that start in the eligibility period and extend past June 1 -- I remember that the series finale of The Sopranos came out in June, but was made eligible for the previous year's Emmy Awards so its run would all be encompassed in one year's eligibility; I assume Fargo is like that this year.
