Episode 2 of 10
So no one is going to be watching episode 2 right? Since a lot of you thought the Pilot was terrible?

I wonder what the ratings drop off will be like for this episode. Doesn't HBO usually renew a show within the first few episodes of the season? I guess it depends on what their expectations are. I figure they have to be hoping for ratings of at least what The Newsroom got in its first season.

I'm in for a couple more at least. My expectations are pretty low now so maybe it can surprise me.

I really will be surprised if this gets another season.

Eh, I tried. I thought this episode was much better in execution than the pilot, but still I can't make myself care about a single character in the series. So even though the presentation improved it's still just a bunch of miserable, self-loathing people moping around and being miserable. I couldn't care less what happens to any of them, except for maybe the handful I just plain detest. And since the only thing interesting about the show (the 'event') is intentionally not the focus and that seems unlikely to change I can't think of a single reason to keep watching.

I'm sticking with it because there aren't that many good summer shows, so I have an hour a week to watch it on my DVR. I am still intrigued by the premise, but I don't know if I will like it in the long run.

I remember reading some review a few weeks back that said that the second half of the 3rd episode is really where it picks up and gets interesting. The reviewer worried the show would lose viewers after the first 2 episodes because of this reason.

I like the idea that maybe the cop and his crazy father (Scott Glenn) are actually getting messages from "the other side" that might tie into the disappearances, but I also know that we're never going to find that out, so something that should have sparked my interest just frustrated me.
This show is very much like watching LOST, EXCEPT this time you know (thanks to Lindelof's public statements) that you're never going to get any answers.
I'll be surprised if this gets renewed as well. I'll probably still watch it for at least a few more weeks.
Surprisingly, I like the teenage daughter storyline more than I thought I would. I hate anything to do with the "Guilty Remnant" - that story thread is a drag to sit through. The stuff with the son and Wayne isn't too bad - waiting to see where that goes.

Still can't see how the book can work as a series, but I'll give it a few more episodes just to be safe.

So, Garvey uses his brilliant detective skills and finally locates his missing bagel at the end. I would have gotten a bigger kick if he ate it.
I loved the raid of the compound at the beginning. That was really intense.
What the hell is the deal with Gilchrest? It felt like he wanted to fuck Garvey's son. I got the impression that he's some kind of cult leader.
This is a really glum and depressing show and I can see how most here are having trouble resonating with the characters and story (whatever it may be) I can't say I love it, but I like how different it is.

Yep, it's different. But I almost quit by the middle of the episode, and I'm one of the "defenders" of the show. I mean, I know what the show is about, but I'm not sure if I want to watch 10, 8 right now, episodes of that at this moment.
Gilchrest? In the book he has a really interesting back story, they have been changing some stuff from the book, so not sure if they would go there. His back story Lost-esque if I can say that.

I'm out. Two episodes in and I don't care about a single character on the show, except for maybe the daughter's friend, who seems to be the only character on the show with a personality worth a damn.

I was able to drag myself through an episode an 3/4, but I just have no desire to spend another 8 hours with these people.
It's funny how HBO shows are such polar opposites. They're either fantastic or borderline unwatchable. Not much I watch & think 'meh'. At least they're trying different stuff, I guess.

This show shares one of the most annoying traits of Lost and Heroes: having to actually read what the characters are saying to each other. At least with Lost and Heroes it was valid that certain characters wouldn't be speaking English. But now I gotta look up from my laptop and read what the people are writing to each other on my TV! Don't those damn whities realize it takes them longer to write than to speak? I guess they don't really care about wasting their time, but they're wasting mine!

Yeah, I'll give it one more too.The cult leader with all the asian girls and the cop's son is the only interesting storyline going on right now to me. This episode was a step down from the pilot.

Also, regardless of the cursing and violence, it still feel like a homogenized network show rather than an HBO show.
