Stephen King's Under the Dome - Season 2 Discussion - CBS

For anyone that's sticking with this show and needs a refresher, CBS is airing a recap special tonight at 10 pm:

Highlights from Season 1 and a sneak peek at what lies ahead for the residents of Chester's Mill in Season 2. Also: interviews with cast members and executive producers.

Personally, even though I endured the entire season last year, I'm bailing. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice... But I will probably read some recaps of the new episodes and check in here for some high quality bitching. Don't let me down!

Same here

Great potential...but the immense stupidity of the latter half of last season is too much to return too. That being said I'm all for reading about the train wreck

Loved, loved the book... but the show screwed the pooch for me to care anymore. I watched all of S1 except for the finale and I can't bring myself to spend another minute with this garbage.

Fade to white season finale was awful. Am hoping King can redeem the season opener. If not, likely out as well.

I'll tune in for the S2 premiere. Not committing to anything beyond that at this point.

Based on what he did and didn't say in EW in his joint interview with Damon Lindelof, I don't think King cared all that much for the TV show either. He has no day to day involvement.

King wrote the season premiere and according to Neal Baer, who's the showrunner, he's pretty involved with it. But maybe not day to day.

Despite his laissez-faire attitude, King relished the opportunity to tinker with an adaptation of his own work. "It gave me a chance to set the arc in motion for the season," he said between mouthfuls of pizza (served, much to his amusement, with a side of ranch dressing), "and it gave me a little more input into what was going to happen."

"We thought this would be a great way to solidify the support of the fans but also put his creativity and imagination to work," said show runner Neal Baer. "Stephen is very supportive and collaborative and has always said to us from the beginning, 'It's your baby.'"
I have to watch episodes 11-13 on Amazon Prime from season 1 still. I somehow lost them.

The only reason I would watch again is to slam it on here.

Exactly. It's that train wreck you can't take your eyes off of, but one that is conveniently scheduled well in advance to boot.

Well, hope this isn't a spoiler, but at least one of the show's annoying characters won't make it past the Season 2 premiere.

Yeah, that's not right at all...King is VERY happy with the show and very involved.

In the joint interview I read with him in EW he seemed to imply his disatisfaction with season one. Maybe I read too much into it. Again. I stand corrected.

Maybe that explains why his TV adaptations are typically so awful.

I had thought I read somewhere that King wasn't happy with Season 1, either. Oh well.

I gave up after episode 8 or 9. I doubt I'll tune in this season but it's the ultimate hate-watch show for the summer.

Neat concept. Liked a handful of the effects.

Not at all interested in continuing. I hope they complete the story and get it over with.

King has a major tendency in his novels to go on forever and bloat the length. If this show replicates that, I wouldn't be surprised.

Will Amazon be streaming these a few days later again? I watched the whole first season that way and I'll probably tune in and hate-watch if I can do it at my convenience.

Yup, the agreement with Amazon renewed for season 2. They will be posted 4 days after broadcast.

Maybe King's dissatisfaction with season 1 is exactly the reason he jumped on board for season 2... for a chance to course-correct?

Well, if indeed King was unhappy with Under The Dome, he's changed his tune this year. However, he still dislikes Kubrick's version of The Shining:

Harlan Ellison hates "City on the Edge of Forever" and P.L. Travers hated Mary Poppins. Whatever. I respect the authors' opinions, but from my point of view, I love the final products anyway.

Let me write it. Two episodes. First episode, give away the secret. Second episode, kill everyone in the dome.
