Motherfucker. Unbecuckinglievable. After all of that time I spent driving from Target to Target to find that fucking disc. FML. And how about after this, Paramount, you remaster the original 10 and the long overdue director's cuts?

Well of course Paramount does this. The timing is odd though. Would have made more sense during the home video release of the third movie.

Edit: Although after reading that article sounds like they got input from Hunt and acknowledged they fucked up the release of ID.

The MSRP isn't bad. This release should be affordable, but I know people in this forum loathe double dipping.

Fuuuuuuuuuck.

We got shafted so bad on STID.

Soooo what has been added overall... Aside from the IMAX version of STID. Someone break down what features are actually new and what features were in what release of STID.

Is the NEW bits really new stuff?

I finally bought the first film last week. And I have the BD and digital versions of STID, a movie I somewhat love and somewhat loathe. I'll pass on this.

I don't see any reference to 3D in those Star Trek into Darkness specs. Looks like Paramount couldn't resist finding some way to screw fans over again.

Hmm, I picked up my Blus of both flicks used, so I haven't laid out much cash already. And this will get discounted for the holidays, so I'll probably get it and keep my current ones for the 2.35 transfer of Into Darkness.

It would be nice if they left a space for a couple of discs for the 3rd movie which we know is coming...

So can this forum let go of it's hate-hard-on for Hunt now?

Because it's not included. I agree, I think they yet again screwed us over again by not including 3D with this. Bill did point that out on his write-up:

"For the record, the standard 2.35:1 theatrical edition and 3D versions of Star Trek Into Darkness are not included in this set, but many of you probably already have those and they’re still available on Blu-ray separately at a significantly reduced price (the BD3D Combo is just $14 on Amazon right now, while the 2D Blu-ray is just $12)."

There's just not enough money in re-releasing this title in 3D again. It was one of the biggest 3D sellers, percentage wise (15%), but even then, considering they've sold 2.1 million Into Darkness units, that works out to about 300,000 - 400,000 3D units in the US. They'll be lucky to sell 250,000 copies of this new release, it's not worth investing in another 3D master.

Just re-read the article, did you guys see this:
First of all, yes... I DID let them know that fans really want better special editions of the classic Trek films, with new, properly-remastered transfers and the director’s cuts. So please know that message was conveyed and the idea is under consideration.

Not a shock at all. Any Trek fan knows that Paramount will try to sell them the same thing as many times as possible. Still, this is a nice package, except for the lack of 3D. I'll stick it on my Christmas list.

I still haven't brought myself to buy Star Trek: Into Darkness. Depending on the price for this I may consider getting it since it seems to be a pretty definitive version of both the Abrams' films.

Too bad Paramount didn't get this right the first time around.

Kind of a slap in the face to reissue it with Star Trek '09, though. Just an excuse to jack up the price.

I'm pretty disappointed about the lack of 3D. I upgraded to a 3DTV right after buying Into Darkness and this would have been a great excuse to upgrade. :/

I see nothing there to make me rebuy these. Obviously the lack of 3d is a positive selling point for me, but there just isn't enough there that I am interested in to get me to buy them again.
The original films, however, I would buy in a heartbeat

Oh sure, you all love 3D in this thread...I'm getting my ass chewed out about how worthless it is in another thread.

As many here know, I wasn't a fan of INTO DARKNESS, although I do own the 3D version (the curse of being a Trek completest). But I'm not enough of a completest to want to double dip on this.

As others have said, I'd be more open to Paramount going back and giving us new special editions of the original films, with 4k transfers and new features. Seems a little too early to double dip on JJ's films.

Was STID made in 3D or was it a PC?
