Californication (S7E11) -- "Daughter" -- 6/22/14

The ratings are in for 'Santa Monica Cop' - and Hank may soon be out of a job, which sends Charlie reeling. With the revenue stream drying up Marcy decides to accept Stu's offer. Karen arrives with a special guest: Becca, who makes a big announcement. However, Levon spoils Karen's plans for a family reunion.

One quick observation,

I wish they would have dropped Karen and made this season about Hank/Julia and Amy Taylor Walsh.

Mercedes Masohn is ridiculously hot. Same goes with Heather Graham.

I saw this episode last week. It doesn't give me high hopes for the finale.

What in the last few seasons has given you anything remotely close to hopes, let alone high ones?

So glad for next week's episode to come and free me from having to hate watch this show anymore out of need of completion.

Is it just me or has this season really been lacking in female nudity? Yet we keep getting shots of Runkle's and Stu's asses. And then they tease us with the woman at the bar with Charlie and we get nothing! The only female nudity I remember from this season is the hooker that Levon had. Is it wrong to hope for some Karen or Becca skin to close out the series?

I seriously doubt it. Unless they decide to do a past seasons highlights.

At this point I'm just looking for something better than Dexter's series finale, we will see..

So Project X was on Comedy Central the other night and this kid was in it too. I remember when I saw that hating him in that as well. Honestly... did we really need this character to be so fucking annoying? I really don't understand how anyone involved in the show can watch the episodes in the editing room and be like yea... this is fantastic. A great way to have a final season.

Who thought it was a good idea to retcon a son into the final season of this anyway? That's just horrible writing. It was horrible in Dexter too when they added this character from Dexter's childhood into the final season that sucked. Maybe it's a showtime thing. I bet the final episode focuses on the crappy wedding of Becca and then Hank will ask Karen to marry her at Becca's wedding.

Re: Californication (S7E11) -- "Daughter" -- 6/22/14

Yea...Showtime really has issues with letting shows run longer than they should, and then shitting the bed when they end it. i.e Dexter, Weeds. Or... they cancel fantastic shows way too soon. i.e. Huff, Brotherhood. I don't understand why Nurse Jackie is going to be going into it's 7th season next year. Yea the show is good... but there's only so much you can do with the addict stuff.

The plot line with a son should've been something they introduced years ago, if they were going to do it. They should've done less of the back and forth with Hank and Karen and just had them been apart for a while. Over the final season, he realizes his life is a joke and then tries to pursue one last time. I would've enjoyed a show that was a behind the scenes Hollywood type thing like this season...except for all the crap they've written instead. Hank as a teacher? Come on... The musical band tour shit.. ugh.

I will say that the last five minutes of the past two episodes (Hank/Karen, Hank/Becca) were both pretty well done. That's really when this show does shine, when they forego all the crazy slapstick stuff (i.e., the Runkles) and have Hank deal with the repercussions of all his fuckups when it comes to them.

If they can capture enough of that and provide some true resolution to his story, I'll be happy with the finale.

Re: Californication (S7E11) -- "Daughter" -- 6/22/14

I think that's the main problem. I keep wanting them to focus on this writer who is struggling with his creations and his fucked up choices in life.

I liked that aspect of it and the dick jokes that the Runkles bring just weigh it down.

I mean, throwing an unknown son in the mix would have been okay if they had just approached it better in giving Hank the ability to view himself, his younger self and see what type of person he was becoming to try to correct it. But nope, they just turn it into Mini Hank with a higher annoying ratio.

Even the failed television show. It could have highlighted something about Hank in realizing a failure of a project on the critical level and not just because he views the project as sold out and out of his control

Are they not going to post the series finale up early?

It still hasn't shown up on DirecTV on Demand for me as of Wednesday evening.

Looks like they are holding off unfortunately. Usually they are up late the Sunday night before. I guess they don't want the spoilers out there.
