‘The Powerpuff Girls’ Returns With New Series in 2016
“The Powerpuff Girls” will return to Cartoon Network in 2016, the cabler announced Monday. The reboot will include a new television series and a full licensing program that will roll out across all regions. The show premiered in 1998 and was created by Craig McCracken.
“The original ‘Powerpuff Girls’ was a franchise phenomenon for Cartoon Network, paving the way for a new generation of innovative storytellers and enthusiastic fans worldwide,” said Rob Sorcher, chief content officer, Cartoon Network. “We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice and Chemical X.”
The series earned two Emmy awards during its 78-episode run, and spawned a 2003 feature film, a 10th anniversary special, and a re-imagined CG special, “The Powerpuff Girls: Dance Pantsed,” which aired on Cartoon Network in January and featured the voice of Ringo Starr.
“As the original ambassador of girl power, ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ brand continues to resonate with people of all ages and there is tremendous excitement around introducing Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup to a new generation,” said Pete Yoder, vice president of consumer products for North America, Cartoon Network Enterprises. “With proven success and great content plans in place, there’s so much potential that we’re looking forward to explore with our licensing partners in the coming weeks.”

I love the original series, but never got around to watching the specials that came after the series ended. This is welcome news as far as I am concerned.

I believe that Cartoon Network controls it as a brand. I assume they are hoping the children that grew up on Powerpuff Girls will now buy the merchandise for their own kids. Companies regularly try to ramp up nostalgia merchandise at targeted age groups.

Given it's on CN, I expect the show to be cancelled after one successful season. Two at the most.

Adventure Time is on Netflix, Rick and Morty is online.

Man Cartoon Network has really cut down on YouTube.
That's about it.

The Amazing World of Gumball is pretty good, too.
If McCracken isn't involved I'm not sure how it will hold up. If they're reviving shows, they should bring Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack and Johnny Bravo back while they're at it.

Cartoon Network's executives heavily interfere with creative control of their shows. They are looking for a specific product made for specific demos.

Also Symbionic Titan and new episodes of JLU. Don't know about the rest of you, but I have been staying up all night on Saturday to watch the Toonami Adult Swim line-up.

Oh please have McCracken be heavily involved with this. I don't suppose there's any chance Samurai Jack may eventually return?

I was fortunate enough to have young daughters during PPG's heyday ... How am I going to explain watching this now?
