Powers (Playstation Network) -- S: Sharlto Copely -- Series Thread
Brian Michael Bendis, acclaimed writer and creator of the comic "Powers," revealed new details about the upcoming TV series adaptation of "Powers" last night.
Appearing as part of Sony's E3 media briefing, Bendis confirmed that the first season of the original series will be available for free to all U.S. PlayStation Plus subscribers in December. PSN members not subscribing to 'Plus' will have free access to the premiere.
In development for some time, the ambitious drama series will be the gaming consoles first big original content series exclusive. The story follows a detective who investigates cases that involve people with super powers.
Bendis serves as executive producer on the series.

I remember when FX was developing and it and I remember there was a rumor that it was going to be re-shot because Lucy Punch dropped out.

Sharlto Copley was cast as the lead. He's playing the same role that Jason Patric played in the FX pilot.
Michelle Forbes was also cast.

Hmm... between this and who they cast for Deena, they're not exactly going for accuracy to the source material as far as likenesses go.

Looks pretty damn good. Too bad I don't have a PS system anymore. I'd watch this.

Bendis is the one who created the comics, I certainly think that he'd pretty much have to be involved, if not as showrunner, then in some capacity. The whole thing starts with him, it's is baby.

Nobody is saying he shouldn't be involved. Just that I have no interest in anything he is involved with. I had no idea what "Powers" was until I clicked the thread.

I wonder how this is going to work on the PS4. Is Sony going to post all the episodes at once or once per week? I saw you need to be a member of PS Plus to be able to watch this, so it's going to have a pretty limited audience. I'll check it out whenever it's available. My PS Plus membership runs until next June.
That trailer is pretty funny considering how many F bombs were dropped. Seems like it's pretty hard R rated material. Some naughty kids with the PS Plus membership might try to sneak and watch the material behind their parents backs.

Don't have anything above a PS2, so I guess I won't be watching this. As its exclusive to them, it obviously won't be showing up on any other streaming services, though maybe it'll get a DVD or Blu release down the road.

If they're trying to get their service off the ground and attract people to PSN why would you think it'll show up elsewhere? Wouldn't that be like Orange is the New Black popping up on Hulu?

Because it is a sunk cost after a while and the PSN+ audience isn't big enough to support the cost of original television productions. While they haven't announced it yet to draw as many people to their service as possible, it won't be locked forever to PSN+.

Coming to Playstation March 10th
3 episodes will be posted on premiere day, then it's only 1 episode per week afterwards.
The 1st episode will be available for free to everyone on this site:
http://www.playstation.com/en-us/exp...n-plus/powers/
But, you must be a PS Plus subscriber to watch the rest.
Here's a note from the EP of Powers:
Hey PlayStation Nation!
Brian Michael Bendis here again, co-creator of the POWERS comic books and executive producer of the show, and I have some big updates from the set of POWERS, the first original live-action series for PlayStation Network. I’m happy to report that production has wrapped on all 10 episodes of POWERS. Under the skillful hands of our showrunners Charlie Huston and Remi Aubuchon, our amazing directors, writers, cast and crew, the episodes are coming together beautifully.
As I sift through different cuts of the episodes and the raw footage, I’ve been hearing from our cast on the set about how much fun everyone has been having. They battled the Atlanta weather and the flu and they pulled together and really gave it their all.
So it is my honor and privilege to officially tell you that PlayStation will be releasing the first three episodes on March 10th followed by the debut of a new episode every Tuesday on PlayStation Store.
Stream the first episode for free on PlayStation Store or at playstation.com/powers and the full season will be available free to members of PlayStation Plus…which you should have already because it’s awesome.
As we head toward the launch date I will be updating you on all kinds of special surprises and giveaways. For instance, for those of you looking to get a head start into the POWERS universe, this Wednesday, January 21st at your local comic book store or at comixology.com you can pick up a brand-new POWERS number one…its double-sized story for the regular price. This is a perfect place for new readers and old to hop on board the world of POWERS.
And you can catch me tonight on Late Night with Seth Meyers talking more about the show. Yes, it is very weird to even type those words.
Be sure to also follow the official pages on Twitter and Facebook for more fun extras. Thank you to everyone who has been sending me notes on Tumblr and Twitter about their eager anticipation for the show. I can’t tell you how much we all appreciate that. We think of you during the long hours…we really do.
So, it’s not going to be too much longer… March 10th!!
I leave you with the key art from the series. It’s just a little tease, a little taste, of what’s to come over the next couple of months.
See you online…and if I killed you in GTA V, I’m sorry (not really).

I like Sharlto Copley but the trailer I saw for this made it look terrible. Can't say I'm all that excited to give it a shot.

Interested in the series since I've read a few issues of the comics, but I have a PS3 and no +. Guess I'll pass for now.

I'm confused. I have a PS4 and and a PS3 but don't have PS+. I have no plans to sign up for PS+ just to watch this show. Does that mean I'm SOL?

As for your OITNB comparison, House of Cards has popped up as an on-demand rental through some cable providers and also came out via DVD and Blu-ray.
