Vizio TV Issue....

So about 10 months ago i bought a 55 Inch Vizio 3D TV. Everything has been running fine and i actually really like the thing.

Anyway, 3 days ago i am watching TV in the morning before heading to work. Everything is fine. When i arrive home i turn on the TV and no sound coming from it. I check to see if any sound is coming from the PS3 input channel, and nothing come from that either. I then check the DVD channel and sound is coming through that fine. The picture is also fine on all channels.

So i unplug everything, give it a few mins and plug it all back in again. Still no sound. Then i check on the menus to see if the sound options are ok....and they all seem fine.

It is to be noted that i notice that one of my electrical clocks has reset during the day, meaning that the power to the apartment has gone at some point.

I have called Direct TV and they are sending a technician tomorrow to check it in case its something to do with their box.

It appears to me that this might be HDMI related, but what are the chances that both HDMI's would fail.

Anyone ever had this experience and offer any suggestions? I have tried doing some research and tried a few logical answers that people have posted online for others that have experienced this kind of thing, but no luck so far.

As a last resort i will take the TV back. I paid for an extended warranty, so will see if they send a technician out or if i have to take it back instore. But would rather get it sorted myself if i can.

Are you running your sound through a receiver, or are your devices connected directly to the TV?

Re: Vizio TV Issue....

I have a HDMI cable running from the DirectTV box to the back of the TV and also a second HDMI running from the PS3 to the back of the TV.

Re: Vizio TV Issue....

Sounds like the power surge may have borked your tv. Typically unplugging for 15 minutes and plugging back in fixes it...but you've tried that.

Do you have any other HDMI devices you could test with?

Re: Vizio TV Issue....

I will see if i can hook the HDMI to something else and test that. I will attempt an unplug of everything again to give it another shot....won't hurt to try. I will once again go over everything i have looked at already once more to be certain. I guess the last resort will be to take it back for fixing.

Whatever happens i guess a better surge protection would not go amiss as well to be safe.

Thanks.

Re: Vizio TV Issue....

Well i managed to get things going again by using the 3rd and 4th HDMI ports that my TV has, but still not working through the original two i was using. I will take the TV back at some point in the near future to see what they have to say and if they can repair those ports.

I would refrain from mentioning the power failure. Even if that was not the cause, I'm sure they would claim it was.
