Hilarious interview. Jean Claude Van Damme getting upset because he hated the costume and was too restrictive to do his karate moves on Arnold.

Thank God for Stan Winston.

These pics are like some alternate universe craziness. Neat story.

Re: The original "Predator" - Jean Claude Van Damme

I just got done blowing through the five Predator films. One of the nicer moments in Predators was the original monster design showing up as another alien creature. Reminds me of the original Godzilla design (he was basically going to have a head shaped like a mushroom cloud) being used in Matango aka Attack of the Mushroom People. The original Predator wasn't a bad design at all, but of course the replacement was better. The addition of humanoid eyes in particular was a big improvement.

Watching the Rodriguez movie, I was struck by just how much the design of the creature has changed over the course of the films, I really hadn't consciously thought about it until I saw them together.

Didn't Cameron help out on the design to some extent? I think he added the mandibles. For some reason I'm remembering this being on a plane, Winston and Cameron are there, Winston asks for some advice on it, and JC gave him some help.

Correct. I remember seeing this mentioned in some documentary or other. Cameron said that he thought mandibles would look cool. Cameron and Winston have made some great designs over the years. I still chuckle whenever i think of Camerons design of the spaceship with tits from Battle Beyond the Stars.

I remember there being something about this on the Predator DVD in one of the behind the scenes features.

Interview with Stan Winston on the redesign; he mentions Cameron's suggestion:

Was it on the SE DVD of the film?

I assume you don't mean Sybil Danning, so can you tell us more about this?
