Minus the Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang moment with Lola, great episode -- the first without Paxton.
They started setting pangs of redemption for Ward. I'd still rather see him self-sacrifice than full redemption and just have Trippett take his place.

Loved the ending, especially Coulson's reaction. Pretty much what mine was as well . Shame to see the team reduced to this level, but not having all of that fancy stuff makes it more suspenseful IMO.
When did they mention ManThing? Was it during Coulson's discovery?

Cobie Smulders is a rather awful actress. I've never watched How I Met Your Mother, so maybe she's good at comedy, I don't know. But she's terrible at drama. I've seen some people complain about Chloe Bennet's acting, but she's far better than Smulders here.

Marvel really needs to up the budget on this show if they want it to succeed. jfc, the flying car scene and Deathlok's appearance are some of the cheapest looking special effects I've ever seen.

It's fine the way it is. I think the show has improved so much and glad I gave it a chance unlike many. Second season is going to be GOOD !

How can Ward ever be redeemed after murdering tons of SHIELD agents (not to mention those two we saw him shoot in the head)?

The effects were pretty bad with Lola, but the momentum with the series hasn't let up I dug Ward giving Maria Hill some shit about being pretty when they were in the planes. Skye/Ward is a little awkward and too obvious and predictable, and i'm really hoping they don't try and make anyone feel for Ward. I'd rather they just let him be a bad ass dick.
Interesting ending, although a little let down since it kind of feels like a cop out instead of something a little more crazier to do with the MCU. I guess we'll see if they expand on that more.

For show on the back of a multimillion dollar record-breaking film franchise, some of the effects do look mighty cheap. This show took a while to find its feet, but it's finally hit fifth gear. I thought the final tag would be Skye's "surprise" on the hard drive. I thought maybe she'd try to seduce him to buy more time.

Is it still odd that I don't give a shit about Ward or Skye and would have probably just not followed them?
I mean.. yeah, I don't care about these characters still.

I could see a "reformed" Ward with no memories of the horrible stuff he's done being a somewhat interesting character. Especially with everyone hating him. Somewhat like Angel from Buffy.
But if he's purely cured by the power of love, that would be pretty lame.

This show has really shifted into high gear since the beginning of the year. Hard to believe it's even the same show.
While I like the character of Maria Hill, Cobie Smulders really seems to have difficulty with the dramatic acting. None of it seems to come naturally. Though maybe they put her there to make Chloe Bennet look better in comparison.
Interesting reveal at the end. I think my reaction mirrored Coulson's.
I'm hoping Ward sticks around as a recurring fly in the ointment, kind of like Krycek on X-Files. He's a lot more interesting this way. I don't think they could realistically redeem his character at this point.
The special effects were acceptable, with the only one that really didn't do it for me being
. But this is a TV show. Disney may have deep pockets, but even they know its not cost effective to regularly do motion picture-quality special effects on a weekly basis. So I can forgive the show occasionally cheesy effects as long as the storytelling is solid.

Cobie just seems to lack gravitas in the role of Maria Hill (I never thought she was great in the film incarnations, either), but I like staring at her, that's about it.

I loved Sky accusing Ward of being a Nazi. I also was interested in what Hill and Stark are trying to put together. She reffered to privatizing national security, so are they putting together a new organization? SWORD? HAMMER? This kind of ties into what we've seen in the Winter Soldier and on-set images of Age of Ultron...
