Amazon to get Exclusive rights to HBO VOD catalog.
They also have exclusive access to Showtime as well.
However, No Game of Thrones, seems like HBO not ready to give that one up yet.
Still pretty good catalogs to have.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Under the agreement, Amazon has exclusive SVOD rights for select HBO programming. That includes full seasons of “The Sopranos,” “Six Feet Under,” “The Wire,” “Big Love,” “Deadwood,” “Eastbound & Down,” “Family Tree,” “Enlightened,” “Treme,” early seasons of “Boardwalk Empire” and “True Blood,” as well as miniseries like “Band of Brothers” and “John Adams.”
Deal marks the first time HBO programming has been licensed to an online-only subscription streaming service — and it’s a big win for Amazon in its rivalry with Netflix, the SVOD category leader. All the programming covered under the licensing deal with Amazon will remain on all HBO platforms, including HBO Go.
Previous seasons of other HBO shows that are currently airing on the cabler, including “Girls,” “The Newsroom” and “Veep” will become available over the course of the multiyear agreement, approximately three years after airing on HBO.

Pretty cool. I can't get HBOGO to work worth a damn on my Roku, but Prime video works great. I'd love to rewatch a few HBO series.

To me this is huge. Love my Amazon Prime and I don't have Netflix (and have no plans to add it since I cancelled it a year ago and haven't missed it at all).

Yeah I also just saw Netflix having a price hike, but so did Amazon Prime. But that free 2 day shipping!

Amazon Prime is still a big discount for me, ever since they put my dog food up on 2 day shipping for free, it normally costs 15-20$.

Wow, that's a big score.
A friend on Facebook the other day was talking about True Detective, and someone chimed in "I want to see this. C'mon, Netflix!" I responded, "It will be a long time till Netflix has this, if ever." and we got to discussing how no HBO series are currently on non-HBO subscription streaming services. This is a big change, and good for me since I have Prime and not Netflix.
I expect this will include Cinemax shows that are owned by HBO such as Strike Back and Banshee, but we'll see. EDIT: The three-year wait implies that they'll be there eventually but not right away.

Wait, when they say exclusive rights, does this mean those series are gone from HBO GO?
It's weird, but I almost don't want Amazon to get more digital exclusives, because it'll mean the bundled price of Prime will go up again...

I don't stream but will continue to buy HBO shows on blu-ray from any place other than amazon.com so I can be sure they packaging won't be beat to fucking shit when I receive it.

They really need to update their Roku interface

I pay for Prime, Netflix, HBO (through Dish), Rdio and Google Music Unlimited. In one fell swoop, Amazon has basically eliminated my need for everything else. Huge win for Amazon. They need to release non-Fire Android and iOS streaming apps, though. I ain't buying Amazon proprietary hardware to access these services.

This is a problem, but they're not falling behind. Their Q1 earnings are above expectations and they just signed a multi-year deal with Mitchell Hurwitz for new series development.

I have HBO Go, so no biggy to me. I wasn't impressed with Amazon Prime when I did the trial, so this won't change anything for me.

I'm happy about this. I would love to rewatch Six Feet Under. Bravo did air edited rurns of SFU several years back.

I'm a current HBO subscriber and Amazon Prime member, so no big deal for me. Amazon may have a slight edge in my case since I prefer their Roku UI to HBO's.

Will it have Carnivale? I didn't see it mentioned, but I wasn't sure if that's just because it's a more niche title. Is it on HBO GO in HD?
