Looking for a new reciever... any suggestions?

I have a Sony 5.1 surround system. Its form 2003/2004.... it still works great, not a damn thing wrong with it... but i am looking to upgrade because what i need for audio in it doesn't have and drives me nuts switching back and forth. I need two Fiber Optic ports (playstations). I would like it to still be 5.1 if applicable... cause i just want the receiver and still you my speakers. I was looking at this: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-STR-DH540...eiver+strdh540

but its a year old and not being made anymore. Any suggestions? i want to stay below 300$ would actually prefer under 200$ but that may not be feasible. Thanks

If those are PS3 or PS4, you don't need the optical, you can just use the HDMI for both audio and video with a receiver with HDMI.

this is true, I've always heard optic sounds was better, and though it was my only option, I did enjoy it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Optical is digital, HDMI is more advanced digital, you should have no quality concerns there. What you heard in the past would be about optical vs analog, where for most people optical gives surround sound and analog only gives stereo.

Here is good one

http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-RX-V475...words=receiver

Plenty of HDMI ports, 3d and 4K pass through. Plenty of power. Good discount of original price, right at your budget point.

If you need another decent choice -(I have a high end Onkyo and like it)

Thanks for the input I will check those out after work. Also I could have been thinking about analog and optical. I've just grown accustomed to fiber optic, would be nice to minimize some cords.

I was planning on getting the Yamaha V475 but ended up with the Denon E300 since it was 100 bucks cheaper. they both seemed to have the same reviews. Both have 5 HDMI ins, but the yamaha has more legacy inputs (which i didnt need).

It's just 'optical'. Fiber optic is a different type of connection.

I'm partial to Yamaha and Onkyo receivers. They've never let me down. I'd avoid the Sony.
