Video Game Endings: Best and Worst
I did a search and found some short old threads that looked at either best or worst and I thought we could do a thread that combines both into one thread. If there's a more recent / thorough thread that does this sort of thing and I missed it, my apologies.
Feel free to make a post that has both your favorite video game ending and your least favorite video game ending. Bonus, if you can post a photo and/or video (or even animated gif). It would be cool if you can post more than just the title of the game and instead also offer your thoughts on why.
I honestly haven't finished a lot of video games in my life so I haven't seen all that many endings. If I did see an ending, it was probably in the NES / SNES days. A few stand out in my mind, though.
BEST ENDING:
I always liked the endings that showed all of the main cast, like a sort of "curtain call" for all of the characters. For example, the Mega Man games. I remember the curtain call ending for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time was cool because when it introduced the Turtles it showed them taking out an enemy and/or being funny but whenever it introduced an enemy it showed them smacking the crap out of the Turtles, a nice twist on this sort of ending! It's also the first ending that I remember to include gamer stats. (curtain call starts at 1:45 or so):

WORST ENDING:
The one that I always remember being really disappointed in was Rampage for NES. A group of us stayed up all night at my house once, in our elementary school days, determined to actually play all 250 levels. We were really careful not to eat each other if we'd morphed back into humans and to keep the game going the whole time, only to end with this:

How about you?

I'd like to list some old games to show my old-school cred, but for the most part, they simply don't hold up all that well. Maybe Metroid for the twist?

the entire final battle in Portal was great, the ending was solid and the credit song was classic. That really is how you end a game.

Yeah Last of Us by far I would say has the best ending. Others I liked
-Resident Evil 2's B ending where Leon says there going after Umbrealla. Course they ruined that by not following up on it.
-Double Dragon: Having to beat up your partner to decide who wins was pretty cool.
-Castlevania Symphony of the Night: Finding out that Richter wasn't the bad guy and you get a whole other game to play to find out who it is.
The only really bad ones I can think of off the top of my head are Shenmue 1 and 2's endings. Both end on cliffhangers. I also didn't like the endings for Resident Evil 5 or 6.

The Last of Us has one of the great endings of the last generation, although there are some people that have some issues with it.
And yeah, I also liked the ending of Bioshock Infinite, even more than the rest of the game.

The worst, by leaps and bounds, is Ghosts N' Goblins (NES). Taking something that incredibly difficult and forcing you to play twice was bad enough. But add five lines of text for an ending? That was just plain mean.
My favorite ending of all time is still Final Fantasy 7.
