Re: Criterion Sale at Acorn Online

I was going to buy Golden Age........ but $6 for shipping is too high. I don't need it that bad (1 pound media mail with dc is about $2.92, the box is about 50 cents). I'd go $4.50, but $6 is greed.

Thanks anyway to the OP!

You can get Free Shipping with Acorn Premium. They offer a Monthly subscription for $4.99. It also includes Acorn TV streaming.

UPDATE - I just noticed the Monthly membership requires a 3-month commitment.

Reviews on the quality of the transfers were not stellar if I remember correctly.

Last Emperor is still in stock, and it's the four-disc version, too...

Other than Patterns (which I have on Roan), I've seen it. It's ok, but they are kineoscopes, & there's only so much you can do with them.

The price spurred my interest.

But the reviews I read said more could have been done with them and should have been done with them given that it's Criterion. Apparently they used very old masters, so even though they were kinescopes, they could have still looked better.

The Roan copy of PATTERNS is just for the theatrical film, isn't it? I don't think it includes the original live TV production that preceded it as this Criterion release does.

Correct on the Roan. I didn't even look at Patterns when I had the Criterion available to me; I didn't know about the TV version!
